Loosing motivation

Published

Almost everyone I know is trying to get into the nursing program. Well, not everyone, but i can name a lot! It's great to see the enthusiasm of people wanting to go to nursing school but at the same time I feel like, "Major in something else, you're lowering my chances of getting in!" Well, I don't really tell people that, but I sometimes I want to!

I'm not exactly talented, but I really try hard to do good in my prerequisites. I currently have a GPA of 2.79. Actually I brought it up from 2.5 but that's still far to what I need to get in. I'm not one to give up easily, or change majors, because my heart has always been to go to nursing school even before I started college.

This semester I am taking Micro and 3 other fillers. I still need Anatomy, and maybe Statistics for a school that requires it. But I have received Cs in Physiology and Chemistry. It's hard to keep myself to keep myself motivated especially since I've spent 2 going onto 3 years on pre-reqs and there's no certainty of getting into a nursing program.

Anyone feel the same way?

Nope. No reason to feel that way. Just focus on what you want not what other people want. Narrow down your school choices, finish your prereqs and apply. If you don’t get in then try a different path like lpn or emt and then find a program that allows you to bridge over to RN. Or get certified in a different allied health field. Community colleges in my state don’t care if you have other allied health certs – they go by gpa and entrance test scores. But having certs and experience in health care can definitely give you a leg up with as far as getting into most bsn or msn programs. Also don't overlook private schools - they're usually expensive but on the bright side there may not be a wait list. If nursing is what you want to do you’ll figure out a way to get in.

don't give up! and i agree, look into private colleges (if this is an option for you) since there are no waitlists and the competition (at least at my school) isn't as fierce. the cut off gpa at my school for this last round of chosen nursing students was a 3.4. thats a huge difference from the competition at a cc. but then again, some cc's have a lottery system where if you meet the basic academic requirements, you only have to wait for them to pull your name (which could be sooner than later, you never know!) so look around and don't think negatively. everyone is entitled to a bad day, but don't let it go to your head you've worked too hard!

Thank you both for the advice. I already have a private college in mind but I will definitely continue the path I started. If it's something I really want, then I'm going to have to stick with it. It's really a boost for me to read your responses and I just wanted to say thank you :D

I have definitly felt that way. It's not that I don't want people to get into nursing, but at the same time I know that it's very competitive trying to get into nursing school. I try to remember that it's not their fault, it's the lack of teachers. They just happen to have the same dreams as me. But, if you're looking for a bright side, I just took an EKG Interpretation class. There were like 5 nursing students in it and I asked how long it took for them to get in. The girl that waited the longest only waited a year and a half. I can certainly wait that long. Just gives me time to take medical terminology and phlebotomy classes. :D Good luck!

Don't worry about who else is trying to get in. Just concentrate on getting the best grades you possibly can and getting yourself in. Also, maybe you should try workinh with your classmates and helping each other out. How nice would it be to have friends to go down this road with! This shouldn't be about competition, it should be about commradery (sp?). We should be working together, no competing...
