Looking to work in Acute Care Again

U.S.A. Texas

Specializes in ER.

I have been out of the hospital setting since 2002, but have been a nurse mostly working in home health all along. I have a current license in TX, Current BLS, TB, ready to work!

How do I go about getting back into working at the hospital, I think a good orientation would be fine and safe. Are there any hospitals in Austin or New Braunfels or San Marcos that will accept RN's who have been out for a bit? I will work just about anywhere to start and weekends are fine. Thanks for any help.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Will move this to the Texas state forum so you will get more answers. Good luck.

Specializes in OBGYN.

I don't know for sure about Austin, but I know Seton is Magnet and has great residencies and internships for new and experienced nurses. I'm kind of in the same boat as you, as I've taken a year off since graduation to be home with my new baby and am not quite ready to leave her for a rigorous training program and long hours. I will be out for quite a while by the time I go back, but since I've only worked in an OBGYN office part time since graduating, I am still considered a new grad and would probably still qualify for the Versant RN residency program.

I will say the recruiter there told me that if you're out of hospital work for 4 years or more, you are required to take a refresher course and then maybe you could get an internship or something on the floor you're hired on. I bet you'd do just fine with that!
