Looking to talk to RNs in the CF reserves

Hello all,

Just a few questions:

1) First, how did you go about joining up? Did you just go to your local medical unit first to find out if they need RNs, and then the CF recruiter?

2) What do you do in a typical month ... do you have one parade night per week plus one weekend per month, and if so, what do you do? (I was in the army reserve back in the early 90s, so please forgive me if some of my info is outdated!)

3) How easy/hard is it to go overseas (e.g., Afghanistan)?

4) How long was your basic training, where was it done (Gagetown?), and did you then go to Borden for more specialized training?

Thanks to all ... :nurse:

AirforceRN where are you???

Haha...working....

I actually just finished a course with a bunch of reservists...nice bunch.

Sorry it took so long and I may not have all the answers you want as I'm reg force.

As far as I know, nursing reservists aren't your "typical" reservists. They don't parade like the soldiers do (I believe their obligation is only 14 days/year) and they don't occupy salaried positions.

From what I have seen...nurses on the PRL (Primary Reserve List) seem to have it pretty good....they can deploy fairly easily, but also have the option of saying no (something that I don't have). They are able to go on courses (TNCC etc) sponsored by the military and exercises if they wish.

Basic Training is done in Borden, Ontario. I'm unsure as to the length but I know it is no where near the length of the reg force basic.

the perfect place to start.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any more questions and I'll do my best.
