Hey!! :D

I'm starting The Western Pennsylvania Hospital SON this August and would be finished with all my Fundamentals/Foundations of Nursing by summer 2013 (Graduating Summer 2014). I live in Connecticut though. I want to be able to do an externship/internship in the summer of 2013. Anyone know good hospitals, etc. in CT that I can contact who will allow me to do be an extern/intern in the summer for 7 weeks. Thanks!!

Try St. Vincent's in Bridgeport, along with Bridgeport Hospital and Milford Hospital.

Or, consider staying in PA next summer and interning there. More than likely you'll make good contacts there during your first year of nursing school.

Good luck!

I just did an internship at ECHN in manchester, CT. The program is affiliated with UConn but they do accept non-uconn students. I applied early December. I would recommend calling HR sometime this fall to get more information or check their website. Good luck!

I don't know what you're taught in your fundamentals class but most programs require you finish your Med-Surg clinical prior. If you do, you shouldn't have a problem, if not, the only hospital that doesn't require Med-Surg is the UConn Health Center (but they mainly only allow UConn students).

A lot of hospitals have such a program but they might require some digging. Hartford Hospital is good, as is Saint Francis. I actually just finished my internship with SF and it was great, they took more than triple the amount of interns than last year. You can put in for what floor you want and they try really hard to make sure you get placed where you want. The only downside for you might be you have to have an interview and then you need a physical, blood work etc. so that would have to be scheduled around your breaks from school.
