Looking for: Schools that offer ABSN/MSN in NLC states

Published

I'm currently on the prowl for decent schools to apply to for nursing school. I already have a B.A. (see the username) and I want to be a Nurse Practitioner. That means a Master's degree. I also want to have a little more flexibility in where I live after I graduate, so I'm looking for schools in states that are part of the Nurse Licensure Compact. States I'd be willing to live in that are part of this are:

  • New Mexico
  • Maine
  • Rhode Island
  • Delaware
  • Maryland
  • Virginia
  • North Carolina

I already know about Johns Hopkins, but if anyone knows of any other schools that offer ABSN/MSN programs in these states, I would really appreciate it!

one can go to school in any state then apply for licensure in a compact state---don't necessarily have to go to school in one.

I see that one state you have expressed interest in is North Carolina. Duke has both ABSN and MSN programs that are focused towards adults who have a previous degree. The ABSN program is 16 months and also incorporates some portions of the NP program into the program. You finish your BSN with about 15 graduate credit hours that are transferable to the MSN. Duke also has some financial benefits. If you agree to work for the Duke University Medical System (which includes clinics, hospitals, and research labs) for a one year time span after graduation, they will pay $11,000 per year up to three years, which really helps with paying off your loans from the ABSN (a little over 50K). They also have tuition reimbursement for employees after they have been with the university for two years, which means you can potentially have your portions of your BSN and all of your MSN paid for over the course of about a 5 year commitment to the hospital.

Just sharing some info ;)
