Looking for "safe" NP school in VA or online

Published

Hi there,

I've been a nurse for 10 yrs, with BSN, but took some time off to raise my kids & then did some work for pharmaceutical co & now do Case Management w/direct patient management over the phone. I have 3.9 BSN GPA & 2.7 GPA in another undergrad BS (very hard school & was a chem major for 3 yrs). Anyway, I got waitlisted at UVA b/c not enough current clinical experience & just heard from Georgetown's online prog I got rejected (still waiting to find out why). Anyone know of a "safe" school I could try my luck at? I feel like I made a mistake by applying to only these 2 powerhouse schools & should have at least applied to 1-2 schools a bit less competitive. Thx so much for your advice!!

That is probably the problem. What about online such as Vanderbilt. They even have a direct entry program so you would be far ahead of the new entry students.

On a side note, I am attending a smaller state school. While it is a no name school I will have the credentials. I also have a wonderful preceptor and that is really what matters most!

Thx for the tip. I will check into smaller schools as well as Vanderbilt. What is a direct entry program? I didn't look into those b/c I thought they were for RNs looking to get a MSN w/o getting BSN first. I must be wrong, so I'll look into that too! I don't care about the school name either! I just want the credentials. I know the work I put in & the constant research I do in staying abreast of current treatment plans of care will make me a great provider, not just a good school name . . . besides, I'd love to save some money on tuition! lol!

What about Virginia Commonwealth University? Shenandoah University?
