  1. Hi there!, I take my AANP exam next week and just took the practice test on their site. I did well overall, but noticed I had a little bit of a difficult time in the Evaluation domain of the test. Any ideas on how to study for this in particular? I have Leik, and Fitzgerald that I have been studying primarily. I have also been taking the APEA online practice tests. (Barkley doesn't really do it for me.) I'd really like to do well on all the domains tested (naturally!). I can't tell if I'm second guessing myself in this area and that might be why I'm getting things wrong??? This is how AANP outlines this domain: Evaluation: Determine the effectiveness of plan of treatment/care based on outcomes by: Reviewing patient responses(s) Collecting additional subjective/objective information as needed Modify the plan of treatment/care based on outcomes by: Ordering, conducting, supervising and interpreting further tests Adjusting therapies Providing additional education Making appropriate referrals/consultations Providing for appropriate ongoing follow-up Including patient/family/appropriate others as active participants
  2. Thanks!! I didn't see it in their content blueprint but didn't want to miss anything!!!!!! :-)
  3. HI, so I was wondering if you all passed the AANP w/APEA practice test scores between 65-70%? I hope you all did!! I'm trying to get an impression of what I should be shooting for score-wise on the APEA exams. thanks!
  4. Thanks so much for your guidance!! I've been scoring only a 500 on the FamilyNPPrep AANP-FNP practice tests, but I have a few weeks left to study. How predictive do you think they were to the real thing as far as score and content to the AANP? It seems like these practice exams have so many questions on nursing theories, research design, etc that I thought was not heavy or at all an area on the AANP. Am I wrong? Do you know what you were scoring on these before you took the AANP exam? thanks again!, natasha
  5. When and how do you find NP jobs in the loan repayment program? I don't graduate from my FNP program until Dec 2012, but I REALLY need the loan repayment!! What are your recommendations for when to apply & where to find the jobs? Thanks!!!
  6. Hi there! I'm in my next to last clinical rotation & am looking for some online/e-book/pocket book/or textbook references to help me master the following: interpreting labs/UA, and pharmacology. I felt like I had a really good handle of drug classes, etc in undergrad, but worked in the NICU for so ling with a limited scope of meds that I've forgotten so much & had a terrible advanced pharm professor who didn't even show up for lectures!! Thanks! (I have Barkley & Fitz books/cds, but I want more of a backbone/foundational resource for the topics I mentioned, rather than just mastering the study books with limited info to pass a cert exam, if you know what I mean)
  7. of course the admissions advisor is going to be nothing but positive . . . they make money off each applicant. additionally, they build their preceptor database by having each applicant contact a potential preceptor during the application process. whether you are accepted or not, they approach your potential preceptor for their students -- which, in my opinion, is quite backhanded -- especially if you are planning to use that preceptor for your own clinical rotation for the school to which you are accepted. i found the admissions to be quite arbitrary and was accepted elsewhere where I am entering my final semester with a 4.03 GPA. i'm thrilled that i am not paying that kind of tuition for a school that i felt was not forthright information i provided.
  8. smn2009, which school is 4 hours away that lets you transfer your core nursing classes? thanks
  9. THank you all. Can u tell me if the schools u guys PM'd were specifically for the Np program, or just a MSN? I cant PM yet, but if u pm your email address I can write that way. Thx!
  10. Hi there! I am looking for any info on some less competitive NP schools that I can do from VA, either in person or online. I applied to George Mason's FNP program in 2003 & was accepted, but couldn't attend b/c of family issues that arose. I'm heartbroken now as I've applied to UVA's FNP program (got waitlisted Spring '11, they only accepted 3 out of 25 applicants), and Georgetown's new online only FNP program (got denied, said they accept only applicants w/cumulative GPA of 3.7 or better). I wonder if by applying to just these 2 schools I am trying to get into the most competitive programs around here?? I'm not interested in going to a school b/c the name, I just really, really want to finally fulfill my dream of being an NP. So, please, if you know of any school that is not so uber-competitive to get into, I'd LOVE the info. I'm also not set on becoming a FNP, if that track seems to be the reason things are so competitive now, I would love to practice as a Adult NP instead. I just want to finally realize my dream of NP and start a program soon!!!!!!!!!! thx!!!
  11. Thx for the tip. I will check into smaller schools as well as Vanderbilt. What is a direct entry program? I didn't look into those b/c I thought they were for RNs looking to get a MSN w/o getting BSN first. I must be wrong, so I'll look into that too! I don't care about the school name either! I just want the credentials. I know the work I put in & the constant research I do in staying abreast of current treatment plans of care will make me a great provider, not just a good school name . . . besides, I'd love to save some money on tuition! lol!
  12. do all schools allow you to start the core classes w/o matriculating? who do you contact in the school to start this??
  13. Hi there, I've been a nurse for 10 yrs, with BSN, but took some time off to raise my kids & then did some work for pharmaceutical co & now do Case Management w/direct patient management over the phone. I have 3.9 BSN GPA & 2.7 GPA in another undergrad BS (very hard school & was a chem major for 3 yrs). Anyway, I got waitlisted at UVA b/c not enough current clinical experience & just heard from Georgetown's online prog I got rejected (still waiting to find out why). Anyone know of a "safe" school I could try my luck at? I feel like I made a mistake by applying to only these 2 powerhouse schools & should have at least applied to 1-2 schools a bit less competitive. Thx so much for your advice!!
  14. Yes, didactic only . . . the clinical requirements are usually handled by meeting a certain number of hours working with an MD in a clinical setting of your choice . . . sometimes even with the MD of your choosing, as long as your program accepts that MD's voluntary commitment to "precept" you.
  15. Hi!! I'm new to this forum, so thanks in advance for responding to this post! Anyone know of a completely online NP program?? I contacted 2 but they are completely "full" until Summer 2011 & I'd love to start very soon!! Let me know if you've actually had any experience in the school as well! (probably looking to go into Family NP, or maybe even Ped NP) thanks!!
