I think she means non-textbook as in: not a generic school textbook on psych nursing, a more reader-friendly book.
Unfortunately I don't know of any of these either, but I would love to find a good book like that. My school texts were dry and I would love to have a more "reader friendly" psych book!
I haven't looked, but perhaps check out Home - American Psychiatric Nurses Association. I know they have CE modules on there.
How about Psychiatric Nursing Made Incredibly Easy? You can find it on amazon. I have found that series to be very helpful in nursing school.Thank you for taking the time to click into my post. I've made a career change to adult psychiatric nursing. I'm looking for a non textbook reference for therapeutic communication techniques and a reference for psychiatric review. I would grately appreciate any input from seasoned psychiatric nurses. Thank you, in advance!
Journal of Psychosocial Nursing. Each issue isn't an all-in-one reference but there is a lot of good psych info and if you decide that psych nursing is right for you, it's worth the subscription.
Otherwise, see if your workplace/school/library has access to a nursing journal database--if they do, you can search in there for articles on communication, etc. that you can read at little to no cost to you.
I retyped these from my textbook so I could have a nice one-page reference for my binder. I copied it word for word, although there may be a few minor typos. Hope it helps.
