I personally like the "Incredibly Easy" magazine, although I subscribe to several. As a new nurse you are going to be very busy adapting to your new practice. I wouldn't worry much about joining an organization outside of work. You may want to look at sitting on a committee at work, this will help you network and could also benefit you on the career ladder. Check with your supervisor. Also, joining a committee lets you work with people who are generally positive about your place of employment and are willing to work at changing problem areas. The important thing is to not spread yourself too thin. The transition from school to practicing RN is stressful and overwhelming at times. Good luck!
I agree with stressgal. I started out in the MICU as a GN also and my orientation was so stressful and so involved that I didn't have any time for journals or outside organizations. And we weren't allowed to join committees until after orientation.
The best thing you can do is to absorb as much as you can during orientation and leave some time for yourself to relax and enjoy life.

Hello.
I am a GN starting in the MICU. What organizations/associations do you suggest I join? What journals should I subscribe to? Do you think that it is too early for me to even think about this?
