looking for a legitimate, decently priced fast track lpn to rn ONLINE program

I'm looking for a legitimate, decently priced fast track lpn to rn ONLINE program and there are so many out there. Does anyone have some good advice or recomendations for me? Thank you!!

Specializes in ER.

There really aren't that many online programs out there because LPN to RN programs require more clinicals in most cases. One program that doesn't is excelsior but that can cause issues if you go that route if you want to work in certain states like California.

In all honesty, I'd look for a local LPN to RN program that offers online lectures but on site clinicals. That is the best way to avoid getting dinged for not having enough clinical hours should you have to switch states later on.

There are a ton of online RN to BSN programs because there usually is no need for clinical hours.

So I'm kind of in your same boat. I was looking for a LPN to RN program, but I have time issues with work (my job isn't the kind of place where I'm guaranteed to leave at the same time everyday) plus I have a family member who has health issues and depends on me. I am currently an LPN working for Montefiore Medical Center at one of their outpatient clinics in New York. I went to school through the city (unfortunately it no longer exists because of NYC budget cuts) my school use to put down Excelsior all of the time - So I never considered it to be an option. UNTIL I started at Montefiore and one of the nursing supervisors recommended it for those who have time issues and outside commitments that stand in the way of attending conventional nursing classes. He also mentioned that MANY RN's at Monte attained their degree via Excelsior. My second issue was - "Will this Excelsior degree let me transfer out?" so I decided to call schools that I was interested in getting my Bachelors with like NYU and College of New Rochelle, & what do you know?? yes they do, but aim high because GPA counts.

The only thing I'm currently investigating is how much time do I need to study? The best method to study…etc. My incentive is that at Monte - don't quote me. RN's start making around $70K+/yr. I'm in Monte once I graduate I just transfer to RN position god willing get my 1 yr. RN experience and leave if I want. The trick that I've been told to getting around the issue of being hired and employers questioning the fact that you acquired your ASN via Excelsior is to work for at least a year in Nursing home. I'm trying my hardest to stay at Monte, transfer to a unit where I'm around RN's so that I can see first hand what it's like so I know what to expect at the CPNE.

Depending on which state you reside in don't count out Excelsior completely find out how if your state accepts Excelsior grads, try to find out if institutions where you're looking to be employed in the future take Excelsior grads. Excelsior is very legit… but at the same time don't expect for the degree to be handed to you. You have to be self disciplined enough to finish what you started & that's with any online program. Best of luck to you. Hope this helped.
