Looking for info on Monmouth County Vocational LPN School-New Jersey

Published

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone here has gone to Monmouth County Vocational School for the LPN program... I'm starting in September and I have no idea what to expect. Just looking for some reviews and some tips on how to succeed. Any info would be great!

Thanks!

I'm currently in the program and we just completed phase 1. I expected it to be difficult, but I wasn't prepared for how intense it actually is. "Pure hell" is an accurate statement! If all goes well I will finish in January. Goodtimegirl and Xdelitezx gave some excellent advice. Be prepared for most of your free time being occupied with studying and not having a life for a year, but if you keep your focus it'll all pay off. Good luck to you!:) By the way, uniforms are now hunter green bottoms and white tops for the women, white bottoms and hunter tops for the men.

Thanks for instilling more fear in me !! I'm married and have two kids. I'm really worried about the toll this is going to take on all of us. But when we come out the other side I will have the career I have always wanted.

I have a silly question to ask, What were your study habits to retain so much information ? I have not been in school in a very long time and I'm worried about study habits and how to remember all this new information. Did taking notes as you read help alot ? That's how I used to study.

That's not a silly question. Sometimes I take notes as I read, sometimes I make cards. Do whatever works best for you. I'm sorry that I made you more scared with my last response. There are a few people in your situation in my class that are doing just fine. Take it one day at a time. I've been in phase 2 for the past few weeks and while it's not easy, it's more relaxed than phase 1 because it's not many different subjects being thrown at us at the same time as it was in phase 1. I'll probably see you at school in September : ) Again, best wishes to you. Take a deep breath and relax : )

Don't apologize. I'm just scared in general.:) Once school begins at least I will be in the thick of it. It's the unknown that scares me. Thanks for the study tips and taking the time to post. Hope I see you in Sept. I'll be the scared lady walking down the hall shaking !!

I was thinking of calling the school and asking what the textbooks are that I will need so i can begin looking at them now. I don't know how they will feel about giving me that info.

Where did you buy your books ?

great! I need to have made 15 posts in order to send emails thru allnurses. Interesting rule. I have you set up as a friend. Once I am up to 15 I'll email you !

Thanks !:)

I attended MCVS way back in 2001. It's a great program and it can be hard at times with all the work and home life. Once you get a groove and a study pattern it will be ok. They prepare you for the RN classes also. Loved MCVS I would recommend them to anyone.

hello! not sure if anyone is still out there.....all this info is so helpful! i am considering going to mcvn and am very scared to say the least. most of my questions were answered from reading all of your posts, (thanks) one more question...the tuition...other than what is posted on their web site, are there any hidden fees to be aware of? it's a very fair price, especially after talking to lincoln tech:eek:.....are clinicals included in the tuition? talking to them made me very nervous. don't get me wrong, it sounds like a great program, i am not bad mouthing them at all, just trying to compare before i get started. thanks :D

In addition to the tuition, you have to pay for books (you can buy them as you go, you won't need them all at once, look on half.com), uniforms (about $50 each, you'll only need 1 for phase one, then about 3-4 total for phases two and three), all white nursing shoes, and that's about it until graduation, which you'll need $50 for pin & flower, about $40 for dress/hat, and $400 to board of nursing & nclex.

Hoping you will respond, did you graduate? I'm curious to know if the classes transfer for an RN bridge program?

Out of 33 students, 11 graduated in my LPN class. Yes, the credits do transfer to a bridge program, but many of them require you you to have at least 2-3 years working experience first. I have to say, dollar for dollar it was the best nursing education I ever received. I recently finished my BSN and I'm starting a masters program in the fall. Best of luck to you.
