Hey SonyMom,

I'll be starting at Lawrenceville this fall. How about you?

Hey SonyMom, I recently made my decision and will be going to GPC in the fall. I did not get the Financial Aid I expected from GBC, so that kind of made up my mind for me. That, and the thought of 3 years of hell instead of only 2 years. :chuckle

I'm sure a support group will definately be in order. :o I don't think I have to do CPR cause my current card is good till 4/2006. I never met with my friend to get any additional information on GPC cause he is in the accelerated program at GPC and started up classes again May 10. However, I have a lot of free time at my job during the day so I'm studying dosage calculations. I heard there is 8 calcs. on every test so it's a good thing to be familiar with so you can concentrate on the harder stuff. Can you tell I'm a bit nervous? Just want to be prepared!! Keep in touch! Anyone else going to Clarkston this fall?

Hi Sheri!

Glad to hear you'll be with me at Clarkston. About the calc problems..actually the last 5 questions of the tests, starting with the second or third one are always dosage ones. The teachers refer to them as "a free 10 points"..that's how well versed they feel we should be. And the questions start out really easy and progressively get harder. I don't think I missed but one question (I've been there before, remember) and that was because I forgot the part about "divided doses", which is extremely important if it had been a real patient! So don't fret, it's not calculus. See you on Aug.4th and 5th for orientation. Feel free to ask me any other questions either here or PM me. Mary

Hey Mary, I actually do have another question. Someone recommended to start reading the Fundamentals text (like I said, I have a lot of free time at work), do you remember anything about what was covered first semester in that book? Also, I hear a lot of people on these boards stressing about the meds they need to know, is there any way on earth to get ahead familiarizing yourself with meds that need to be memorized? or did you not even get to that first semester?

Sheri, As far as reading..you can start at the front and see how far you get..Suprisingly, you will end up reading almost all of that Fundementals book by the end of the semester (gasp!). That book will become your friend (or enemy) because you may want to carry it wherever you go just in case you have 5 minutes to read.

We were given 20, I think, drugs to learn. And by learn, I mean the class, catagory, adult dosage, action, side effects (general and life threatening), and a reason why you would give a patient the drug. We had to be able to "perform" on this when we did our medication checkoff. I don't know if it would help to give you the list(if I can find it) because they may change it.

You don't have to know them until mid to late October, I think. I keep saying I think because I tried very hard to forget it all when I left, before I decided to go back.

Have you got your CPR cert. and your health record done? I've got my CPR left over and all I need is another TB test and I'm done with that stuff. and I already have my lovely uniforms and shoes and such. So I'm pretty much ready to go...Glad to answer any other questions you might have. Mary

Don't chuckle. Form that support group. You're gonna need it.

I agree form that study group! If you have extra time get a head start on reading the fundamentals book. I highly recommend the test success book. The tests start off from day one with nursing nclex questions. I also recommend the NSNA nclex-rn review book. It contains questions in the same style as test questions. Good luck!

Thank you, Southergirl, for your suggestions. I have a feeling they're going to come in handy. Also, thank you for not being so negative in your recommendations. Are you currently in the program, or did you already graduate?

Hi,

I'm looking for GPC nursing students starting nursing classes in Clarskston in Spring 2006. Is anybody interested in carpooling from North Metro Atlanta (Alpharetta, Roswell, Dunwoody)? I guess we could take turnes in driving to school especially the first five weeks of every day classes. :)
