Looking for FNP to shadow

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey there!

I am having a little difficulty finding a nurse practitioner to shadow. I am starting to apply to some FNP schools but I feel like having some shadow experience would help me better understand the role.

I went to school in another state and have recently relocated to California.... I was just offered a job, but it does not start for a few weeks so networking with my co-workers isn't an option yet. I am looking for ANY suggestions on the best way to find a FNP to shadow....these are the things I've tried so far with no luck....

- Asked my friends via Facebook, text, or word of mouth if they knew any FNPs whom would be willing to shadow(only people in my old state had suggestions)

- I just started cold calling offices, however I keep getting the run-around or they just don't participate in shadowing.

-Emailed corporate hospitals asking if they have shadow programs.

-Emailed old professors (in another state) if they knew anyone in California whom might be willing to let me shadow them.

I am kind of at a loss at this point... I really didn't think it would be so difficult.

I would appreciate any tips or suggestions! =)

I'm in a different state, but the pharmacy-based clinics (such as CVS MinuteClinic) here use FNPs. Maybe you could shadow one of them? Also, if there are FNP programs near you, call them up and ask if they can help you locate an alumnus to shadow.

Thank you so much....those are awesome suggestions!! This will keep me busy tomorrow =)

You can join the AANP or CANP (I recommend the latter over the former to get a better list of members).

Thanks db2xs! I'll look into joining AANP! It definitely looks like they have a lot of resources that will help as a student too. =)
