I went into nursing wanting to be a traveling nurse. If anyone would like to put there insight on their traveling nurse association, i would greatly appreciate it. They all sound so good and i want to hear personal experiences from an actual nurse who worked as one. Currently i have been talking with cross country travel corps and medstaff nursing. Any recommendations of the best company to choose? nicest apartments? best accomodations? thanks -Jon

travel nursing is an awesome gig, but i think you need a year or 2 of experience under your belt because when youre in a gig they expect you to have everything down in a short period of time. Their orientation period is like 5 minutes.
I dont know any agencies, but I'll ask around for you.

I wanted to do the same thing but realized that you really do have to "know your stuff" and have at least one year experience. However, the nurses in the travel nurse forum seem to love it so you should try posting or looking there!

I traveled before once with Access Nurses to San Francisco, Nicest recruiter. I got a 2 bedroom furnished apt by myself, condo style with all amenities (pool, gym, parking) all utilities paid for. It was about 30minutes from work but didnt complain.
MSN Nursing sent me to the island of Maui, they were great. I ended up getting the housing stipend and renting a room from craigslist. Great agency, didnt ask for receipts.
Most agencies are on a reimbursement plan, you front the $$ and they divide it to your paycheck, by your contract assignment (13wks, 26 wks etc). For example, I asked for $3000 for 13 wks so $230 every week in my paycheck. But MSN didnt ask for receipts so they money could basically go wherever since your fronting it first anyway.
But the more you ask for, the less your hourly wage. I will start traveling again soon..good luck
