looking for the best school to get going as an RN.

I am a Navy Corpsman deployed with 4th Recon H&S PLT in Iraq. I am currently receiving punishment from a court martial resulting from a very unfortunate poorly timed incident outside the wire. As a result I was reduced to E-1 and can no longer attend ECU as I had been planning for quite some time now (they require E-3 in place of prereqs). What kind of schools I can still get into without starting from the bottom prereqs? I have Corpsman Basic "A" school, FMSS, and OEMS. This AO is very quiet. The training I've had, has been mostly combative up to this point. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated right now, thanks alot. HR Applegate.

HR Applegate,

While I can't offer any info about schooling in regards to where you can start with your training in mind, I did want to drop a line and say that I am sorry about your situation and wish you the best of luck with whatever happens.

Also, I would like to say thank you for serving our country. I know there is a lot of criticism about the war, but I still appreciate what you guys (and ladies!!) are doing over there for us. Blessings to you~

Thanks, it's surprising how good it is to hear every once in awhile. Where in Texas are you from? part of the unit is from San Antonio, and I was born in Lubbock.

Once you finish your enlistment out you can use your GI Bill to help with the cost, but nursing school isn't something that can be done as an active duty soldier outside of the military schooling, you're best bet is to bide your time and save as much money as possible out of each pay check, which I know isn't much (don't want to get me started on what I consider pitiful wages :angryfire), it was one of the most frustrating things being an NCO's wife, watching families try to make it on nothing, my husband was infantry so I had to wait until he got out all together before attempting school as he could be gone at a moment's notice to God only knows where, your best bet also is a school in your home of record state so you don't have to pay out of state tuition fees. You'll still have to start at the bottom as far as your pre-req's most likely but depending on the school you may be able to do some of the basic ones online before you finish out your enlistment.

Actually, I'm a reservist (FYI all of 4th Marines are Reservists). So I'll be starting school up the semester after next, In New Mexico where I'm from. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of a school that offered an RN degree without prereqs for military personnel.

I am in Tyler, which is 90 miles east of Dallas. So I am on the opposite side of the state than you are!

I know that y'all hear the criticism about "having to be over there" and that shouldn't be the case. Unfortunately, people don't think about the fact that y'all do have ears and internet and ways of hearing the comments, and these same people should be thanking y'all for what you are doing. Most of you are not over there just because your unit has been called up, you are there because you love this country and are fighting for it and its people. So I always say a big THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU!! Especially to a fellow Texan!!!
