Okay, I will try to make this as short as I can.... I started taking core classes many years ago and never finished. I am wanting to get into one of the RN ASN programs near me, there are atleast four around me, but my problem is when I went to sign up at the college again to take the remainder core classes before applying to nursing school, they had me down for four classes that received F's from the year of 1996, but I do not remember signing up for these. I was pregnant in 1996, not to mention I had two other small children so I do not see myself signing up for these. I spoke with the school and they said there was no way to check this because they did not keep records from that far back. They recommended I file academic bankruptcy since that has brought my GPA down to 2.0 (you have to have a 2.5 to even apply), but you have to have taken 18 hours since the semester that I have the F's. I haven't taken any classes since before that semester so I have to take 18 hrs in order to file academic bankruptcy, so one of my questions is are 18 hours to many hours to take in one semester? If I do not take them this spring I am going to have to wait until 2010 to even apply again, which is very disappointing. Has anyone encountered anything like this? I'm afraid that this will keep me from even being accepted to nursing school. I am 40 years old and not getting any younger so I would really like to get my schooling over as soon as possible. Thanks for listening and I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Does your school offer acclerated classess. This semester I was enrolled for 14 credit hours but the classes that I had started at different times. A few of the classes started at the beginning of the semester and finished the beginning of this month. Then a few more started last week and finish at the end of the semester. I only ended up taking two classes throughout the entire semseter. The only downside is you have to make a schedule and stick to it because you can get behind very easy.
You also might want to check how many credit hours you are allowed to take per semester. Two schools that I went to required you to get permission from and advisor for anything over 16. They looked at your GPA and your work schedule to see if it was something that they thought you could handle. They didn't want people to take a bunch of classes and have to repeat because it was just to much.
Good luck.
