Nurses Stress 101

Published

Hi. I'm 23 years old and I'm in my forth rotation of nursing school. I am also working to pay for tuition. Needless to say I am very exhausted. My family isn't really active in my life and I am single with no kids. However, I have managed good grades through nursing school. (All A's and B's) and I am so proud of myself. But there is (obviously) a lack of a support system. I was wondering, whenever I become a nurse would this get better? I want to be an ICU nurse and I know that will be so rewarding. Maybe I won't be so sad anymore. Idk. I just wish someone was proud of me. Can anyone relate? Or give me some words of wisdom.

Well I am proud of you. It is h-a-r-d to get through nursing let alone do so while working and keep making A's and B's. You have done a fantastic job and done so on your own. Not many have that determination, stability, let alone confidence. You have done great, you really have. ((((HUGS))))

Buck up and do it for yourself and be a great nurse. Serve yourself first, do it for you first. You're young and you've got decades of work ahead of you. This means plenty of time...Make your own way in your own world first. I know it's easier to say than do, but it is what it is. You may find your true meaning tomorrow, or you may have already found it and just haven't realized it yet.

Blessings to you.

I would not plan on anything external like a job making things "better" for you. Nursing is v. stressful and demanding, even more so than nursing school (I realize that sounds impossible to nursing students, haha). Have you looked at what you can do for yourself to address your loneliness and sadness? Possibly considered some therapy/counseling? Do you have any hobbies or social activities that you enjoy? Friends (esp. friends outside of school and work)? Can you start working on making some friends?

Congrats on your success so far, and best wishes for your journey!

I'm proud of you! Not only have you done really well, but you've proven that you're mature, responsible and have a great work ethic! Working and going to nursing school isn't easy.

IMHO, you can't rely on other people in your life to make you happy. When you're done school and working as a nurse, you'll meet new people and probably have a refreshed outlook, so you never know what will happen. If nothing else, I'm sure you'll be more rested, and will feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off your shoulders.

Ultimately, do whatever is needed to be happy! You're young, the people and possibilities are endless!
