Longest "Visit" in ER b/4 admitted to your floor

Published

What is the longest time one of your admissions languished in ER before coming to your unit?

Two days here, although I have heard from co-workers as long as "four days" but that isn't something I have personally experienced. My longest was two days which is bad enough...........:uhoh21:

I had an uncle that had MI in Polk County Florida, around the beginning of February.

A clue: NEVER GET SERIOUSLY ILL IN FLORIDA DURING SNOWBIRD SEASON!!!!!

He was in the ER in Polk County for two days. No nearby ICU beds were available. Another ICU bed (2) were found in Orlando - 60 miles away. He was emergency transported to that facility. However, by the time he arrived, two patients at that facility had gone bad, so he ended up....in the ER in Orlando for about a day.

Code Purple down here is such a pain.

It's also not unusual for psych patients to be in the ED for the weekend waiting for transfer to an inpt facility.

I will try to remember this the next time we are holding inpatients. It makes our situation seem not-so-grim!
