Published

i am starting community college in the fall where i am going to be getting my associates degree and then try to get into the nursing program that they offer. i messed up in high school which was stupid and i didnt really try and i dropped out of biology and i did bad in earth science and i didnt even try to do chemistry. will i have the chance to do better in my sciences because i am sure you need them to get into the nursing program and im starting to worry that i really screwed it up for myself and my future. what do you think? and i am not planning on taking the normal two yrs to get my assoc, i want to do it in a year

Ok so I dont really understand your question. First of all, are you getting your associates and then going to an ADN program, or a BSN program? It seems like you havent started school at all yet, am I right? Also forget about getting your ADN in one year, thats not possible. It takes 3 years with prereqs if you haven't taken any college courses. Also, if you have done bad (less than a C) in college courses you might as well retake them. If you are talking about high school grades then nobody really cares about those.

My grades in HS were somewhat sad. My grades in the one semester of college I took just out of HS were not much better. Twenty years later I decided I wanted to go to nursing school. I had NO chemistry in HS and you could not apply for the NP without it. I needed to school high enough on the math ent. exam to qualify for chem or I would have to wait another year to apply. I reviewed the math over and over again and did score high enough to take chem in my first semester.

Long story short, I busted my tail and maintained a 4.0 and was rewarded with an acceptance letter to the nursing program on my first try. I have now completed all my prereqs and will start the program in a few weeks.

My point is, your past is your past, leave it there. Be who you want to be today and don't let anything stop you.

All in all it will be 3 years for me to graduate.

Good luck to you!

Kim

Hi, I wouldn't worry about not doing well in high school, neither did I. In fact, I skipped in high school big time. When I got out, I couldn't attend a university, obviously, so I went to a community college, took 12 credits and applied to the universities nursing program and was accepted.
