Morning y'all.
Just saw on morning NYC local news that the state is considering closing LICH. Submitted the story along with link on the "News" section, soon as the mods approve it should be up. If anyone wishes from NYC you can pick up the Daily News who has the main story or simply watch any of the news programs. *Think* NY1 has something.
Bottom line the purchase by SUNY Downstate hasn't helped and worse according to the state LICH is dragging down Downstate who is having financial problems of their own.
Brooklyn BP Mr. Markowitz is saying "no way" but if they let Saint Vinny's close....

Oh no!!!!!! I was born there and my family's home is still in that area. Where will all those patients go? NY Methodist is jam packed sometimes and so is Lutheran. There is Brooklyn Hospital, but same problem. I'm sad! I thought the SUNY Downstate purchase saved it.
My news submission isn't up yet and may not make the cut being a "local" story, but you can "Google" LICH for details.
Bottom line is it's almost like Saint Vinny's story. Even though the Cobble Hill area indeed much of Brooklyn from the Heights down has "gentrified", those upper middle class and or wealthy new residents either go to Manhattan or Long Island for their care. Unless it is an emergency most seem to want nothing to do with LICH. Even then once the patient is stable many will either request transfer or be moved by family. Don't know if you saw the other thread started today but LICH is going to be shut down. The SUNY board voted today that the hospital will close as it is basically losing too much money, is under ultilized and is draining funds from Downstate.
