hi everyone! ive been a reader and have decided to make an acct to ask some q's :)
i live in oc (knotts berry farm oc) and am done with pre-reqs and will be done with gen. ed classes by the end of this fall, and am currently in the process of applying to 2 year community college adn programs.
my overall gpa is 3.2 or 3.3 and received an a in anatomy, b in physiology, c in micro, and an a in english. should i even consider lbcc since they pick their students based on grades when the number of ppl applying exceeds the number of spots available?
the other choices for me are golden west and la harbor (they pick by lottery and i believe there is no wait-list for harbor). ive been rejected by gw once already.
im not sure if i should even bother with santa ana bc the counselor told me that no one has a chance of getting in (unless youre already on the wait-list) for 2 or 2.5 yrs. and im not gonna apply to cypress or cerritos (dont ask).

Definitely apply to LBCC. Check out their info workshops. I think they start up again this month. I received a lot of helpful information from the dept. head and roughly the stats for incoming students (ie. # accepted each semester and NCLEX pass rates). But fair warning...the school added an information competency requirement in Fall 06. The counselor told me to complete a computer class before I can actually apply to the program. A counselor has to sign off on your courses on your nursing application before you hand it into the nursing department. HTH. :)
Btw, what's up with Cypress College. I know you said to 'don't ask' but I was just curious. The school has high pass rates for the NCLEX (even higher than LBCC) so they can't be doing that bad?? :typing

Sure, why not? What do you have to lose? You meet the 2.5 or higher science GPA requirement and as long as your overall GPA is 2.0 or better you're a qualified applicant.
Why were you rejected by GWC? I put my name in the hat this week. I'm curious about what you were told, you can be general.
im not sure if i should even bother with santa ana bc the counselor told me that no one has a chance of getting in (unless youre already on the wait-list) for 2 or 2.5 yrs.
I put my name there too. I figure it takes no energy to have my name on a list that moves up semester by semester while I'm doing other things. I also applied at Saddleback which does a hybrid of GPA hand-pick and a lottery random pick (from all qualified applicants).
and im not gonna apply to cypress or cerritos (dont ask).
I'm an OC student too and those schools are in my range so of course I have to ask... you can PM me if you don't want to broadcast it. Pretty please
thanks for the replies! the reason why im not considering cypress or cerritos has nothing to do with the schools. i dont have anything against those schools :) i actually applied at cypress last semester but was rejected bc my grades werent good enough.
does lbcc take gpa into consideration when picking students? how many students do they accept each semester?
yes ive heard about the lbcc's information requirement..i have still yet to take care of that (ive been told that you can test out of a class so i can get it taken care of before application is due), the reading test, and info session, and have to meet with a counselor to have my application checked off. i shouldve started on them sooner, but had things going on in my life that prevented me from doing so.
i was not accepted by gwc simply bc my name was not chosen in the lottery. i guess i was unlucky.
Apgar10 when did u apply at santa ana?
i just dont think i have a shot at all with any schools that take gpa into consideration. my gpa is not competitive enough so why waste the money/time? i feel like the only options for me are schools w/lottery system

i got picked by gwc lottery system and then had to take their required TEAS test. Passed it. Then they sent me a letter said they don't have enough seat. (!?) They told me to reapply and that was the end.
did you call them about it? they shouldve guaranteed a place for you for the next semester. are you still trying to get into a program or are you already in?
I didnt call. I emailed a counselor about the situation but they advised me to come in and talk to the nursing counselor in person. Which i haven't done. As far as the whole process they made me gone through for nothing... I'm completely confused. Do u know for sure if they guaranteed a place for you?
im not sure if they do, but it wasn't fair of them to get your hopes up like that. what if you had moved, quit your job, etc to accommodate your starting of the nursing program? if i were you, i would go in and talk to them. dont you want to know why they took away your spot like that?
i just talked to a nursing counselor... She said they tested at least 60-100 on the TEAS and there are only 12 spots. This is the bridge program. So i guess my TEAS score wasnt high enough for the spot. They recently have a new selection process for applicants who apply after 5/1/08.
are you doing the lvn to rn route? and what do u mean by "they tested at least 60-100 on the TEAS and there are only 12 spots"? i thought it doesnt matter what u score on your TEAS as long as u make the passing score. anyways, sorry that had to happen to you
yes, im doing lvn-rn route. This route is also lottery pick.
To my understanding... They first pick your name, before you can take the TEAS test. Then they determine whether you're eligible to enroll the brigde class after the TEAS results.
This process is not guaranteed even if you pass the TEAS because they test 60-100 people for 12 seats only. So i guess they picked the highest 12 people with highest TEAS result.
Yea it's a bummer.

One thing about Santa Ana, however, is that YOU WILL EVENTUALLY GET IN. All of the other schools are either going by points based on your grades and completed courses, or doing the lottery thing. You may NEVER get in to those programs. With SAC, even though it may take awhile, you will get in eventually. Since you don't have to have an appointment anymore, it pays to at least put yourself on their list.
