LoneStar CyFair College Fall 2009

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for all of us who will be starting the CyFair program this Fall 2009. Congratulations to all of you!

:yeah:

To those who are on the wait list, don't give up! From what I've read in the previous threads Lonestar does try to get you into their programs! Good luck to everyone!

As far as offering shorter classes, I'm not sure about that one. You would have to check the college's class schedule. I do know that there is a "mini-semester" offered in Dec-Jan (a 4-week course) for some classes. I remember taking trigonometry that way a long time ago.

I don't know if you would have to apply to Kingwood separately. If Kingwood is in the LoneStar College System, I would think it would be the same application. When I applied I remember only being offered 4 choices, I cannot remember if Kingwood was one of them. Try looking at their website or calling the secretary of the ADN program.

Were you able to sign up for the Friday CPR class? One of the girls in my pharmacology course said her friend took this course and liked it...so that's a plus.

Actually, I wasn't able to sign up for the FRI class because I have no babysitter for my 4 yr old. I will try to get into the Sat class though, maybe this weekend. Please let me know how the Fri class went so I can know what to look forward to on Sat. Thanks!!

djNyla, do you know, if we can take pharm at another college to get it out of the way this summer will CyFair accept the credits,or is it that we have to take it only at cy fair. Thanks luckymama21

Luckymama - I have no idea! I hope they do accept other college's credit. I would hate to have to take it again, but then again, it might be helpful to have a refresher. I've heard 2 different things regarding that. One person on another forum posted they do not take the other course from another university, another person in the program said they might and it all depends. You could always email the question, they get back to you within a day. Here's the email address:

If and when you do email that question, do you mind posting the response here to the forum? Thanks!

immunizations

hey everyone!

i submitted a question last night to the cyfair program regarding what immunizations were needed to start the program since they only had hepatitis b posted. here's the response:

dear nyla,

here is a list of the immunizations required. (the hepb series is listed because it takes a while to do.)

hepatitis b

ppd

mmr

tdap

varicella

i hope this helps.

if you are not sure if you are immune to these, call a clinic to get blood drawn for a titer and have them give you the needed shots right then. some of them have a 30 day wait period from the first one to the second one if you are not immune.

For you guys wondering if you can transfer Pharm from another school to Cy-fair, the answer is no. Cy-fair will not take credit from another schools Pharm but will administer a Pharm test that is supposedly very hard if you decide to take Pharm anywhere other than their campus, even if it is within the Lone Star College System. If you pass, I believe you get a pass on Pharm. If you fail it, you have to take their Pharm anyway. Every school teaches Pharm differently so Cy-fair's way, may not be North Harris or HCC's way. Many Cy-fair students have said and decided to take Pharm with Cy-fair rather than trying to past their Pharm test... I'm not saying is not doable, you may have other results.

Thank you TeeRN2Be!

That's nice to know. So is this exam just a pass/fail kind or does it give you a letter grade if you're trying to test out of it because you've taken it at another college? I'm just curious. Have you already taken pharmacology? Is it case study focus, or knowing the implications, responsibilities, adverse effects, interactions, MOAs etc...?

Hello all. Congrats to all those who have been accepted in the porgram. It must feel Amazing!! I graduated from Cy-Fair college with my Associate Degree in Science this past May. I applied to the program last semester and was unable to get in. So now I am in the process of taking a few of my courses over so that my B's will become A's and also retaking the HESI to boost up those scores as well. The first time I took it I scored a 92% in the math and an 81% in the reading. I was curious to know (If you do not mind) your scores on the HESI and also on the 12 point scale. This is an extremely competitive and stressful process that I am hoping will pay off for me soon. Thank You for your time and GOOD LUCK to you all while in the program.

I believe it's a pass/fail type of thing where you have to get a certain score or above... try searching the Texas forums for Cy-fair Pharm test and some results will pop up. I think you have to score over a 800 or something, I can't really remember the exact score. I'm taking Pharm right now at Kingwood in addition to all of the other Nursing I classes. For me, our Pharm has not been hard, alot of writing for the most part, and knowing the adverse effects, drug-drug interactions, pharmacokinectics and that sort of thing was went over in alot of our assignments and test. I think I may come out of this class with an A, at least I hope I do. I think if you choose to take Pharm with Cy-fair also, you guys won't have it your first semester... I think I remember reading that some where on here. I believe it's either before your second semester or concurrent with it. I just think it's crazy that even if you take Pharm with another school in the Lone Star system, Cy-fair won't accept it... but they do from what I hear, produce great nurses so they are doing something right!

Good luck to all of you.

Hey Candy 82,

I saw your post and thought i would respond. I am in my first semester of nursing school at kingwood and my points were 11.789, the cut off was 11.4. The cut off for north harris was 11.1 this year. I believe the one for cyfair was right around the same as the one for kingwood. Hopefully you will get in soon, good luck to you! Hope this helps :)

does anyone know anything about the varicella vaccine? What if you had the chickenpox as a child. If now record, how do you prove you had them? Does Cy Fair require the vaccine to be administered? I know some colleges only need a letter from you stating that you had them.

thanks
