Lonely?

Does anyone ever feel lonely in home health? There is a lot to love about home health but when I see my old co workers from the hospital and hear them talking about get-togethers and nights out with other staff, I miss that camarederie. Honestly, it is true you are alone most of the time in home health, especially if you work for an agency that uses computer charting.

I do enjoy being out there on my own, listening to the radio, and being able to chart in peace, but I've been missing having someone else to talk to besides my 90 year old patients. LOL!

If I want to talk about nursing I call up my former home health nursing supervisor from a few years back or I just look on AN. Most of the time other home health nurses only want to talk about problems they may be having with the job anyway. It was the same way when I worked in facilities. People were only interested in their own problems and that was the extent that they wanted to associate outside of the workplace.

Nope. We have weekly classes (often CEs) and run into people in office frequently. We too have night out/get togethers every month or so. Plenty of opportunity to see co-workers if one chooses for my agency

Hungry

Angry or Anxious

Lonely

Tired

all dangerous pieces of a stress/burnout pie in home health and hospice in the field.

Well, I don't know about being "hungry". I usually carry a sandwich and snacks and munch constantly along the way. LOL! As far as "tired", I was much more exhausted when I worked at the hospital.

It's more that, in home health, especially with computer charting, you hardly ever see your co workers. yeah, we have weekly meetings for this and that, too, but you know, sometimes it's nice to commiserate with someone during the workday.

It does beat the misery of hospital nursing, though!

I do share your fondness for field nursing. Remember that hunger can also be strong desire or craving. I am often "hungry" for the professional contact - the sharing of info, laughing, and ranting, etc when I am busy in the field.
