Loan repayment options?

Hey Guys,

I just got into MGH IHP for the direct entry nurse practitioner program in adult acute care. I was wondering about the loan repayment plans through Nurse Corps, or the NHSC loan repayment options. Ideally I would like to serve and get a fair chunk of my loans taken care of as well as the experience that would set me apart from new grads.

My questions aren't on the reimbursement, but rather wondering if the programs will accept me because of the acute care specialty?

Also, does anyone know how hard these scholarships, or repayment plans are to get?

Are there any other programs that are similar to these?

Thanks,

I have limited knowledge gained from having had lunch with a rep at a conference a few years ago, but the website should answer most of your questions. I think the scholarships are competitive and fairly hard to get, and I'll bet the 2013-14 deadline is coming up fast if it hasn't passed already. The repayment placements sounded as though some were more competitive than others, depending on location/degree of need. I have no idea how your specialty will impact your application, I assume that would be based on need.

Good luck.

I don't believe acute care qualifies, if I remember correctly you have to be in a position to provide primary care or mental health care.
