I know this topic has been discussed before, but I'm hoping for some updated info from other members. I've recently accepted a full-time position at a federally qualified rural health clinic and am in the process of submitting my documentation for loan repayment with the NHSC. I have a LOT of student loans unfortunately so this program could be a lifesaver for me! Just curious to hear others experiences with the NHSC. The application process itself was extremely tedious but I'm hoping it will be worth it!
Thanks!!

Once you are approved, it is very easy. Every 6 months you send in a verification.
Mine is for two years.

Make sure this isn't getting cut with sequesteration. Lots of this payback type stuff is going to change drastically.
As you are likely aware, in accordance with the Budget Control Act of 2011, a series of spending cuts, called sequestration, will cancel approximately $85 billion in Federal budgetary resources for the remainder of the Federal fiscal year.
You will not be affected by these spending cuts because the funding to support your total scholarship award has already been obligated. The National Health Service Corps will continue to provide funding for tuition, stipends, and other reasonable cost components for scholarship recipients. Student to Service Loan Repayment award recipients will also continue to receive periodic loan repayment payments.

I have a couple friends who are getting loan repayment through HRSA, and they highly recommend it.

I had loan repayment through the NHSC, and it wa a great help to me. The people at NHSC were very helpful. The two year commitment was well worth it.

My situation is that if I am able to use the loan repayment program, it would be at the same time my daughter will be in college. Does anyone know how this affected your tax returns or financial aid for your children? If it is taxable, does it increase your income & therefore decrease the student's need? Any tips on this?

I am graduating next year. Does that mean that the HRSA money for tuition payback will not be there? I did not commit to the two years while in school, I was going to get a job at a HRSA site and then apply.
I think it's true that there are no guarantees about the HRSA. If you take the scholarship, no guarantee of a job, if you go for the loan repayment, no guarantee of being accepted, if you work at a site, no guarantee it will continue to be a site. Definitely an uncertain solution to the debt problem.

I applied this year. I know the first disbursement should be Sept 30th. But when will they tell me if I'm even approved or not? I keep looking at my app status online and it says "under review" Has anybody heard from them yet?

I got the loan repayment program this year. I found out about 10days ago that I had been accepted. About a month before that they asked me for my info for direct deposit into my checking. They told me the first disbursement would be in the end of sep then monthly.
May I ask what your HRSA score is? Mine is 19 and maybe it's too low.
