Hello all! I will soon be graduating with my BSN in Ohio... I have been quite unsuccessfully looking for federal or Ohio-funded loan forgiveness programs, and I seen to still be clueless!

Does anyone know of any of these loan forgiveness programs? I know you have to work in an underserved community, but I can't find specific programs that will let me stay in ohio! help, please!! :uhoh3:

Hello, I'm currently working on general studies in Ohio and suggest you contact some of the larger hospitals in your region. Around here (north west Ohio) a number of hospitals start recruiting nurses before they even start clinicals. The agreement would be that assuming the nurse keeps her grades high enough, the school would pay all of the nurse's tuition, in exchange for the nurse working for that hospital for two years. I'm told that the one particular hospital that does this in my area also encourages R.N.'s to go farther and get their B.S.N.'s once they hire them by paying their tuition 100%. It wouldn't surprise me if many of these same hospitals would pay off some, if not all, of your student loans. :)

I am also in OH, and havent found any loan forgiveness programs here. There are programs in other states. The only program that I know of in OH is the Perkins Loan program, they will forgive your loan over time as after you start working. However, when I checked with my school to see if I could borrow from Perkins in order to get the benefit of the program... my school doesnt participate in Perkins. I work at a hospital full-time as an LPN and chose my employer because they provide tuition assistance without strings, I didnt want to promise to work somewhere after grad for 2 years. Good luck

There are many places in Ohio for this program. Here is the link to the website:

Also, if you have a Perkin's Loan, and start work as a nurse, the loan is usually forgiven. I do not know the full details though.
