LNA Reimbursement?

I will be finishing the LNA course around Mid May and hope to be working shortly thereafter.

I am interested in state reimbursement but I know it's only for LTC employees.

I don't want to assume all LTC's are the same, but I feel I would be happier working at a hospital...everyone I talk to says that knowing me I would do better at a hospital. Knowing I would be happier there, should I just work hospital and forget about the reimbursement?

Also, if I were to work in an LTCF, what's the required length of time, is there a contract or anything like that? Could you work one month, get reimbursed and then leave and go onto something different if I really didn't like it? :rolleyes:Any advice is helpful!

Thanks!!

I'm not really sure how the reimbursement works, either. I believe it varies from facility to facility. I checked this post on reimbursement and it doesn't really mention it.

Also, you're finishing your LNA training in mid-May, too?

I go to the Red Cross in Concord on evenings. Small world!

I almost enrolled in that course! I went with one in Dover, NH, though.

Good luck and thanks for the reply! :)

Hi -

First let me say a pre congrats to you for your upcoming certification. I too did the same route as you. I immediaely went to several local LTC places let them know I was soon to be on the market. Once I got my certification I got numerous offers.

I stayed at a LTC until I received my reimbursement that went directly into a hospital. It took about 4 weeks to get the check. It went very quickly.

Do keep in mind that the pay scale for a LNA at a LTC is greater than the hospital. At the hospital I did 3 days 12 hour shifts and was miserable. It was not for me. Others are happy doing it and get a pay diff.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks so much! I appreciate it!

I, like you, thought that I would work in a hospital after I got my LNA, but this has proven to be much more difficult. I applied to all of the local hospitals in Manchester and all required 6 months to a year experience as an LNA. I ended up working for a LTC for the past 3 months. I am still trying to get into a hospital but for now I don't mind my job. I recived my reimbursement after about 2 months so it has been worth it. Good luck with your job hunting!

to my last knowledge, you only have to work even per diem for the LTC facility, but it is an excellent starter. I worked LTC first, and now I work agency, and get to work in the hospital environment, so if and when I decide to go for a "regular" job again, I hope that it will help. But yeah, like I said, as far as i know, per diem works just fine for your refund check, you just have to get all the paper work filled out, and if you lose it, I ended up calling the state, and they mailed me more! Grats on your upcoming certificate!
