Living on your own in nursing school

Hello! My name is Cara and I'm looking for a little unbiased advice! Well, the basis is I want to move out now while I'm in nursing school. I plan to start the University of Texas Arlington's Academic Partnership BSN online program in September. This program is completely online except for clinicals of course so it is a little feasible to work a little more. I plan to work 32hrs per week overnight shift will maintaining the school. This is not hard for me since I've been working since I was 16. My job is very laid back and I do most of my studying here. If I could I would definitely stay at home, but my parents are always fighting and my dad suffers from Bipolar manic depression which makes my household very difficult to live in. I can barely focus with all the noise and craziness. My father had an episode during my freshman year of college causing me to deal with too much and do poorly. Dealing with nursing school, I don't want to have to deal with it again! I plan to get a little excess on my student loan to have money to sit on in case anything happens. Should I stay home and stick it out or move out on my own? Please Help!!

Thanks!

Cara

Can you afford to move out? Have you figured out a budget with the money you'll have coming in while you're in NS. Rent, utilities, car payment, gas, car insurance, renter's insurance, groceries, books, and tuition all add up quick! Not to mention any spending money or emergency funds you may want to think about as well. Roomies help with the cost, so that's something to consider if you can't do it on your own.

If you can afford it and your current living arrangement is really toxic, then go for it, but trust me, living on your own isn't cheap! If you can tough it out while in school, it might be best to stay home and save as much money as you can. Living paycheck to paycheck is very scary. Now is the time to save up for that future downpayment on a house.

Cant you get a room as a roomate?

do what your heart tells you to do. I am in a similar situation and living at home is hectic and I would be far too stressed trying to juggle school and all the drama being at home brings. Even though living on your on while in school maybe difficult, you have to ask yourself can you afford it and are you willing to juggle working and being a full time student. Good Luck with whatever choice you make!

If you can afford it - I say do what's best for you. You can always cut out non essentials and save money that way or maybe you could find a roommate who could help you cut down on expenses. If it's really hard to concentrate in your current situation, it might be in your best interest to move since you're doing all your classes online and nursing school is such an investment in your future.
