I am playing with the idea that a RN could live in an inexpensive place over seas and work in the us for six months out of the year. If the place one was living had a low cost of living, mexico, latin america, etc...
Any thoughts? Anyone doing this?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

I think it's a great idea. I'm thinking to do this myself. But won't you miss your family and home?
And how are you going to handle your house/apartment payments and other bills?

I don't work in the USA but I live overseas and it works out fine. Just get a job where you are paid in USD and in a country with no expat taxes if you want to live overseas. I pay nothing in taxes to any country. I pay a cook and a driver about $100USD a month. I get a free 3BR apt. with 5BR. I pay $600 a year for a car and that includes all maintenance, oil and gas. This year I got a brand new Toyota. But...the surroundings here in Dhaka drag you down and I spend $$ traveling out of here every chance I get. Otherwise, I'm laughing all the way to the bank.
I think he's talking about living six months there and other six months working in US.
Yes he is, and now he has two options to play with!
I think I like this other option!!

Don't own a home so thats not a worry. See the kids/family the other six months while in U.S.
ZENMAN - thanks for your posts. I do think this is a great option. Please see private msg.
Thanks again.
Moldova - thanks for post.
As you can see by my age, children/family are not as big a constraint as they would be for some one a little younger. One of the bennies of getting older.

Hi,
I am planning the same thing. Although I am almost 50 now, hope to be starting RN program soon. After some experience I want to travel nurse and save a bit of money in hopes of eventually buying in Mexico. Plan is to travel nurse 6-9 months of the year and stay in Mexico the other months. Gradually shifting the work/home time around. Sounds great. If Mexico is in your mind, just start learning Spanish now...is helpful in patient care also.
