LIU Brooklyn Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone,

I was recently accepted to LIU's nursing program starting spring 2020 (January). I was wondering if anyone on here is currently in the nursing program or has any information about the program? From some research I've done, it looks like some people have had problems with the administration but I'm more curious about the actual professors, class schedule, exams etc. Please reach out if you have any info or if you have been accepted as well!

Also did you finish all your prereqs before applying? I wanted to apply for Spring 2021, but I was planning on taking Chemistry in Fall 2020.

Hi all! I applied and waiting on a decision. Where will you all be living? I live in Manhattan now but it’s too expensive while going to school full time.

Hi- I live in queens so probably commuting to school from there.

Hey! Can I ask a prereq question? I see on their site that they require Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology, Algebra, and Statistics. So this mean that you have to take General Bio as a prereq? Can Micro be substituted for that? I've tried emailing them numerous times but I never get an email back lol

Hi Kmgxo- Yes I finished all of my prerequisites before applying to the program! I have both general bio and microbio so I unfortunately am not sure. Maybe you can try calling enrollment services at LIU and ask to speak with a nursing counselor they will prob have more info!

I will say this, the administration at LIU is a HORROR! I was accepted for the Spring 2020 semester. I am not doing the accelerated program. The school’s administration is a complete nightmare. No one replies or will get back to you with information. Everyone there hates their job and it shows!! You have to do your own research and make appointments just to get a simple question answered. I literally have to take time off from work to get things done!! I transferred from a CUNY college and always got assistant. You can FORGET about it at this school!! I think if students on here can help each other out with the admissions process, it would save many from ulcers and grey hairs. Like the program isn’t stressful enough, their lousy administration has to make this experience worse. They literally took the joy away from me!!

No, Microbiology can not be substituted and it is required along with General biology. A&P 1 and 2. There are other requirements as well. Some are not science courses. Look up the requirements. They do follow their requirements and the sciences must be current (within 5 years). No less than a B grade also.

I was just told only earlier today via email I was accepted into their general nursing program and I can pay the deposit and register. This only after pointing out that my "missing" transcript was sent since last July! Now I am supposed to decide to register and pay a deposit for classes (that started today). Nothing has been detailed to me as far as what is supposed to be taken each semester, my clinical schedule options and not to mention what this is really gonna cost me. How am I supposed to make an informed decision? Nobody has sent a single correspondence about my status since I applied last summer until last week. This is a real turn off. I'm only considering it since I haven't heard back from my first choice school.

All and all..you have to do all the legwork and figure stuff out on your own and constantly be on top of them. The professors I think are a lot better than the administration. Unfortunately I had the same problem with registering for classes because by the time I completed everything that I needed to complete, most of the classes were already closed out. I start classes tomorrow. You might start with a small load this semester and then take the classes you need next semester with early registration. I believe they have what is called rolling enrollment which I think means you can enroll anytime. I was able to take 3 classes. What gets me past this mess is the high percentage rate LIU has with passing the NCLEX exam.

You know what's funny, I just received an email from LIU asking if I was interested in applying for the spring semester for nursing rather than the fall semester, which I would rather do because I will be finishing up my prereqs at a CC come June.

Kind of fishy to be honest.

I know someone graduating this coming semester she has told me time and time again go anywhere else but LIU. She says looking back she would have rather spend the extra money on NYU because for the extra 20-25k she would have gotten peace of mind.

I also know two former graduates in my family. One is nurse, neither has positive things to say.

Who knows?? I mean the school is legit. It is not like it isn’t. Perhaps they are busier in the Fall or want more admissions for this Spring. What I don’t get is that the Spring semester has already begun. Today is my first day of class. FYI, I applied for NYU some time ago and wasn’t accepted. It could be because I didn’t have all the classes required but since I applied to LIU and decided to stick with it. I do live in Brooklyn and also work full time for the City in Brooklyn so I figured the convenience would work better for me. LIU’s administration is horrific but remember.. ultimately our goal is to become a Nurse!! Their success rate with the NCLEX and Professors might make up for it. Crossing fingers and toes!!

Moreteaplease,

First off, you definitely have to get advised first by one of the only 2 Nursing advisors they have on staff. That is where you would get your class break down. The only 2 advisors would be either L or K. I’d go with L(these are first name initials) only cause my experience with K wasn’t pleasant.. surprise!! Honestly I haven’t seen him yet so I’m not sure he is any better but to do that, first you’d need to schedule an appointment using their LIU student scheduling system. Google it, you should find the link. Go through the drop down menu and make your selection. I’d also try e-mailing L. E-mail addresses are usually [email protected]. Explain to him the chaos and see if he can squeeze you into his schedule. All you will hear from K is how busy she is. Not to say that she isn’t but we’re all busy and that isn’t an excuse for the lack of.. smh .. good luck to all in the process.

Oh sorry.. first step, if you’ve been accepted is to activate your My LIU account then you can move on with making appointments.. etc..
