I have been researching the Littmann 3000 electronic stethoscope. Wondering if anyone had heard of anyone who has one and what they thought of it.

I personally haven't used one, but one of the RN's I work with is very Hard of Hearing and she has one. She says she likes it and is able to hear with it. She is very very very hard of hearing. You have to practially yell at her, and when you're talking to her you have to make sure she can read your lips too. If she can hear with it, it must be good!:chuckle

Is it very expensive? I have a girl in my clinicals right now who cannot seem to do BP's b/c she can hear them in our cheapies....I wonder if this could help her

Sinn ;)

The cheapest that I've found it is at http://www.allnurses.com for $259.99 plus shipping and tax if applicable.

I'd like to try one, but that is a lot of money to "try". I'd really like to find someone who has one and how well they think it works. In other words...is it worth the money.

I have had a hearing loss since I was 5 years old. I have the Littmann version that came out before the 3000. I've been using it for 1 1/2 years of nursing school and almost 2 years of nursing. With the standard Littmann I could "feel" the heart beat hit my ear drums, but I could not hear it. With the amplifier in this stethoscope, I can actually hear the beat. I have also found that it is useful for those without a hearing loss to obtain a BP on patients who are obese or hard to hear for other reasons.

That said, unless you a working in a specialized area or have a special need, the nurses I work with say that it's not worth the extra money. They all prefer a Littmann Light (?). I'm on an internal medicine floor.

I've had the same Littmann Master Cardiology scope for 10 years (I threatened physical violence to anyone who tried to "borrow" it) and it has served me well. It was =$150 but I considered it an investment. It was definitely better than the plain old Littmann I had before.

Unless you have a hearing disability, I don't see the need to sink $300 into a scope, though.

I agree that buying a $300 steth should be reserved to those who really need it.

I didn't hear so well with the cheapies either (8 yrs. in a steel mill), so I invested in a Littmann Cardiology III. I am able to hear MUCH better now, and at a fraction of the cost of the more specialized models.

Have you tried these?

because i do not have a hearing problem (yet). i have the cardiology III, Littmann, of course. is there a need for the 3000 stethoscope????

Wow, I hear better with my cheap $9 stethescope than with my $89 Littman. I think it is more because it seals my ears better than the littman. Someone told me I should put the hard earpieces back on my littman and try it again.

Maybe I should just invest in the cardiology version.

I want a Master Cardiology too...maybe someday...
