I'm in the process of getting a stethoscope for nursing school. I'm deciding between the Littmann classic 2 and classic 3. Has anyone had any problems with your 3? I read on some other post that people were having problems with pieces breaking or falling off. Didn't know if I should just stick with the 2 because it seems more reliable from what I've read. Do very many nurses or nursing students use the 3?

I have the II and it survived EMT class 2 years ago and have been working as an MA since then. I plan on using it throughout my nursing program and potentially my nursing career unless I decide to cough up more money for III which I will consider a want instead of a need haha.
Alright thanks, I'll probably go with the II now that I've researched everything a bit more. The only reason I even considered the III is because it's on sale right now on Steeles.com. They are pretty much the same price, the II going for around $70 and the III going for around $85 I think. It showed the regular prices to be around 100 for the II and 130 for the III.

I have had a ii for the past five years. Just bought a iii today after doing a bunch of research. We will see what the difference is!

I have used a Litmann II since nursing school and love mine. Works great for both the pediatric patients and adults. Hasn't failed me after five years. Litmann in general is well respected and does have great products, so I don't think you can really go wrong. My only suggestion would be to use something you know you will need, if there is no need for all the bells and whistles of specialized steths them probably best to go with a basic one. Especially if your still getting the hang of the usage like what sounds to listen for, where to listen, when and why you would use bell side vs diaphragm, etc.
