I'm feeling a little down. A couple days ago I called the nursing dept. at the college I'm going to and found out there is at least a one semester wait between applying and getting into the nursing program. I'm finishing my last pre-reqs this fall, and since they don't do nursing classes in the summer the earliest I can expect ot start is Fall of next year. If I get in then. My grades are good, but they pretty much only use a lotto system, taking into consideration if you have applied and not gotten in before.
Just thought I would rant a little.

THAT is really not cool. Sounds like you are putting all your eggs in one basket. What's your plan B?

I agree, it seems that you are only considering this one school. Different schools have different selection criteria. My school, for example, doesn't have a waiting list, nor does it take into account how many times you've applied. Every year they take the top 100 applicants (depending on how many clinicals they have available). The only criteria they consider is NET score and most recent Science score.
Some schools accept freshman students in the spring. I think you need to do some homework and research some different schools in your area. I think you'll find one that will allow you to come in during the spring. You may want to hurry up, though. Most of those schools are prob. in the process of accepting applications now!
Good luck and God Bless!
It is the local Community College. So it is the most reasonably priced and closest to home. Which I need because I work two jobs and have a toddler. Plan B is to wait it out.

I would love to get in after only 1 semester. Our community college has a 2-4 semester waiting list! No merit based program either, so if I finish my pre-req's early, I just sit and wait too. However, I do plan on occupying my time by taking some spanish classes to help with landing a job. Hopefully I will be fluent enough to speak to the patients! ;-D Maybe to that or sign language or something else that will be useful until you can start nursing school.

Oh, that stinks!!! It's so weird how differently schools accept their students. My school, it's solely off of the NLN scores and that's it.
I wish you nothing but luck and hope that you DO get in for next fall.

All the schools around here have the same semester wait between applying and acceptance. Like this semester they open the App period in Aug, and allow everyone to submit unit late September. They also open the HESI A2 testing during this time so you can get that done. Then in Oct they go through all the App's and throw the ones out that didn't meet the critera (at least 75 on Hesi A2, submitting transcripts from ALL schools, taking the pre reqs etc). Then they go through all the ones left and put them in order of ranking in regards to points. Then in Novemeber they let the top 40 who made it know they made it, and give them a time period to accept. If someone doesn't accept then they bring an alternate up and contact them and allow them to accept. Then in December they contact the whole group (of 40) again and have an orientation etc. And the class starts in January. I think its pretty standard the semester between. Here we do have summer starts though.
I am taking additional co-reqs during that time, and retaking a class to get an A instead of the current B. That way if I am not accepted I can apply again in Jan with more points.
