I saw that U of M Flint announcement too. The surprising thing is that U of M Flint does not even have a PhD program in Nursing and has a limited offering of NP specializations (ANP, FNP, and adult Psych NP). The school is part of the U of M system but I don't see their flagship campus (U of M Ann Arbor) doing the same thing. Just goes to show that schools can randomly create their own DNP's regardless of the type of school they are.

Is there going to be a standardization process to ensure consistency? Isn't there something like 190 programs nationwide slated to be offered in the upcoming years? I have a hard time swallowing that someone who attended campus for 4 years is on the same level as someone who did their DNP online. How about the nursing (DNP level) equivalent of the USMLE?

Currently, NONPF has templates for schools to follow (or not) in developing their DNP program. The information is posted in their website. What frustrates me about this is that looking through the template, there are no additional clinical and pre-clinical courses not already included in the current MSN (at least, the one I attended). The template recommends one semester course each for Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Health Assessment - had that in my MSN. Three semesters of clinical focus for NP specialty - had that in my MSN as well. Finally, three semseters of clinical rotations - surprise, surprise, had that too in my MSN! So what exaclty makes the DNP more clinically-focused?

I am too tired to read the whole site but it looks like University of Washington, the "#1 Nursing School", has scrapped the clinical Masters programs too?

they still have MN and MS but they are geared towards administration and management I believe.

UMASS Boston has also scrapped there MSN program. Beginning Sept 08 the DNP program starts.

This is just an FYI (not meant to discredit anyone) but it looks like U of Washington is not entirely transitioning to DNP for all their NP specialties, just FNP and community health nursing for now. Still this trend in many nursing schools does appear that the DNP is coming upon us regardless of how NP's and NP wannabe's feel about it.
