Lifeplans / independent insurance assessments

Hi All,

I scoured this site looking for information on companies to work with on insurance assessments, so now that I have some experience in this I thought I would post. In addition to providing info to others I am also interested in hearing others' experiences. I have done a few jobs so far for Lifeplans. While I find the work interesting and fairly easy, I have been extremely disappointed with the ease of submitting assessments and the support from their office staff. I have been requested repeatedly to re-send documents, even though I can see in the secure email system that the original message I sent was never even opened. I have explained the situation to several staff and yet I continue to receive requests to re-send, and even strongly worded emails indicating my assessment is late. So at first the money seemed decent, but now that I am spending so much time trying to submit my assessments, I am beginning to feel it is a waste of time. What have others' experiences been with this company? Have you found any with better support? At this point I am considering not accepting any more assignments with Lifeplans.

I have an app on my computer called Readnotify. Its cost is trivial annually. To use it, you send your email as usual but append .readnotify.com to the email address. So, for example, to track an email to me you would address it to

[email protected]

I don't see anything but my own email address ([email protected]) on it when it's delivered to me, so I don't know you're tracking it unless you tell me. You, however, get a report back telling you when I opened it, at what computer (including smart phones and tablets), where that computer is (city/state), its operating system, and for how long it was opened. You also get told if it was forwarded or downloaded, and to whom/where. I use this all the time when dealing c clients who are, shall we say, a little devious and minimally reliable about actual truth.

I know you are using a secure network; I would call the IT guy and ask for a feature to notify you of receipt of your posts, and if your emails are not being received, then have him figure it out. Remote workers often have significant problems working out the bugs in VPN (private networks) when they start working for companies that use them.

Your other alternative is to cc the IT tech on all your email submissions. If s/he gets them and nobody else does, then s/he can work that out. You can do this while you're on the phone c him/her. It is my experience that IT people can be very helpful if you give them a challenge.

Meanwhile, PIA, but at least they're paying you to do it. :)

Interesting, thanks for that information. I did finally wise up and start using the read receipt function on the secure email system! But I will keep readnotify in my back pocket as well. Could be useful for a number of situations. Another frustrating twist to this story - the number they listed for technical help was a non-working number! I could go on and on with my rant but I guess the healthier thing would be to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all - thanks again for the info!

I have just accepted a contract at life plans and am grateful for the info you guys are sharing regarding email receipt notification. I am wondering how often do you get a case and how long does it actually take per visit?
