Life Flight

I was interested in life flight nursing. I was wondering if anyone knows what the qualifications are for this?

There was a good thread on a website you may be familiar with:

I think it depends on the company. We went on a field trip to see about this and they told us that you need at least 3 yrs of emergency medicine before you can be put on the list which was a 5 yr waiting list. These jobs come far and few between because when they don't run, they sit around and do nothing. Weather has a direct affect on their flying...if it is 40 or below they can't fly so there is a lot of down time to which they told us most spend sleeping cause you can't go home. And the pay is good. You need to go to the site of one in your area and see what they are looking for. I have a friend who is wanting to do this. she is currently trying to get a job in an ER(no luck yet being a new grad) and she has already put her name on the list. They told her to work on her experience because it would be 5 yrs before the next nurse was up to retire and she had 126 people a head of her. Eww!

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

The requirements also depend on who you want to work for. You titled your thread "Life Flight" which is the name of a service in Houston which is run by Hermann hospital. In order to work for this orginazation they require several years as a paramedic AND RN experience in critical care. Other flight orginizations that I know of will allow you to be an EMT-B and RN as long as you have strong experience.
