Just saw on News4NewYork that Long Island College Hospital will not close for now. SUNY officials have withdrawn their application from the NYS Health Department to close the facility. SUNY furhter states they are exploring other options for the hospital including finding someone to purchase.

woooooohooooo I love you doogoodthengo... Thanks for posting... My birth hospital has been saved :)
You're welcome for the good news such as it tis, but there is still heavy lifting to be done for LICH.
SUNY Downstate is in a financial mess and by state mandate has to come up with a plan by 1 June 2013 IIRC to correct that situation.
In published and online reports SUNY Downstate has said it plans on starting the process of shopping LICH to potential buyers at once. It is clear they really want to sell the hospital off to new owners and focus on the Flatbush Avenue campus IMHO. Thing is LICH has had two owners in the past several years, so it would remain to be seen what a third would do differently.
When Montefiore Medical Center purchased Westchester Square Hospital it was turned into an urgent care/outpatient surgery, and ACC with no inpatient beds.
They were talking about selling LICH before the one year anniversary of SUNY downstate taking over. Haven't you realized why they want to sell LICH and not the other one?? Money talks and I am talking big time $$$$$$ . The property LICH is on is worth waaaayyy more than the other property. I think an urgent care facility would be great. I don't know what the future has in store for LICH, but I do hope it doesn't get tangled in a money hungry and greedy situation.
