Hi,
I'm an international student,n' will be graduating from a nursing school in IL in Dec. Since I have some relatives in CA, I'm planning to move to CA after I graduate. I'll apply for OPT and I have a SSN. I heard that it takes much longer time to get the permission(?) to sit for the Nclex, and it'll take much longer time to get the real license after u pass the Nclex in CA than in IL( don't know if it's true)Here's my question:
Should I take the Nclex in IL, and go to CA , n' get the license by endorsement?
Thank you for any input.
Eve
If you graduated from school in the US, then it doesn't take any longer. If you graduated overseas, then it takes much longer. You have a Social Security Number on an F-1 visa?
Suzanne,
Thanks so much for ur information. I don't have a SSN on my F1 visa, but I have a social security card separately. Does it affect my licensure in CA?

No problem doing a walk-thru provided you have the needed documents with you. Just takes a few hours.
Hi! I am thinking about doing travel nursing in CA, and just looked over the CA board of nursing web site about the walk-through program. Could I really move to CA a few days before an assignment started and just get a walk-through temp license? Would it be better to send a bunch of stuff via mail first, or better to just do the walk-through? Just trying to make it as easy as possible... Thanks!

California does the walk-thru and you can get your temporary permit in just a few hours. As long as one of the states that you are licensed in is on Nursys then you don't have to send anything ahead of time. If not, then you will have to have the state send verification in to the BON before you arrive.
Could be a month or two, or ??? If you need it and you know that it will be within the next few weeks, I highly suggest that you make the round trip and go to their office. I did a 400 mile round trip and it was not an issue at all for me. And that was after driving 600 miles two days before.
There is no guaranteed time frame for when you submit anything to them.
