  1. I'm a hospice case manager and want to find a case manager job in the hospital setting. I think a CCM credential would be beneficial and wondering if my experience would be qualified. I looked at the requirements for application and seems they require experience dealing with insurance company, which I dont. Any advice would be appreciated. Eve
  2. I have 4 years experience in ICU and have decided to be a field hospice case manager. My last day will be next thur and since my coworkers have learnt tht I'm leaving, they have not been very supportive( I know they dont have to). The comments I've heard a lot are like" oh, you'll know all the McDonalds in the area now to use their restrooms", "You are so odd when many ppl wanna come to the hospital while you are doing the opposite", or "Oh, so you will be going to people's home, thats very interesting" or " Its very depressing to do hospice".The nicer ones will said like" how do u know u like it, anyway, i hope u like it" I thought if they are not happy for me, at least they 'll wish me luck:crying2:. But they are making me to doubt that if Im making a wrong choice. But I know I dont wanna to do bedside forever and case management is sth I'm really interested. I'm here to ask for some encouragement and I will continue working towards my goal. thank you.

I recently have one year experience in TCU, and will be starting an ICU training program in Feb. I am offered a position in SICU/Trama ICU after completion of the program. The SICU/TICU manager told me that I needed to pick either one before the program started. So, my question is which one should I choose. What are their differences? Thank you for all the inputs. Eve
  5. I just graduated from my nursing school in Chicago in June this year. The followings were what I did to apply for the NCLEX-RN in CA: - sent the application to CA BON on June 5 - sent transcript requests to all of my previous schools where I took my prere. courses on June 5 - officially graduated from school on June 10(sat) and my nursing school sent my nursing degree transcript to CA BON on June 12(Mon) - went to CA on June 12 to stay with my relatives till now - did the fingerprint thing on June 13, and sent the form to the CA BON on June 14. I was told by the agent which did the fingerprint for me that it would take one to two weeks for the BON to get the result of the fingerprint. - called the CA BON on June 13 and was told they just officially got my "application form" - called the CA BON again on June 27 and was told my eligibility to take the exam was issued on June 26( didn't receive any notice yet) - registered with Pearson on June 28 and got the ATT via e-mail from Pearson the same day( it's ok to register with them coz they could find out your eligibility with BON themselves) - The IP/ interm permit arrived two weeks later. - Took the NCLEX on Aug 9 in the bay area - Found out I passed on aug 11. BTW, u can check on the BON website if ur IP has been issued. I found my name on the board website for IP the same date that I calle dthe BON, whicg was June 28. https://app.dca.ca.gov/rn/tlverif.htm I hope the above info can give u an idea of the time frame, it might varies for u though. Also I heard there are less students graduating in Dec than in June, so it might be faster to get things done. But again, i'm not sure if u can get everything done by Feb12. Good luck! Eve
  6. I totally agree with Suzanne. U should focus on your NLCEX first. I graduated in June, but didn't really start looking for a job until Aug after I passed my exam. U can increase your bargaining power if u have your licence in hand. In my case, I had a similar experience as u did. Many hospital HRs told me they don't do a petition for foreign born nurses. So I decided to apply some hospitals w/o mentioning the petition thing. There's an unit director in one hospital( in the bay area) really likes me. So I bought up the petition thing, and she promised me she would talked to the HR for more info. Though the HR earlier stated that they have a "no-petition"policy, they later called me and said they would do the petition for me. I have to pay all the fee though. So all I want to say is to get your licence first, and make sure u can pass it ONCE. Otherwise u are just wasting your OPT time. We have to stay positive at all times even though it will be frustrating looking for a petition. Also, if u are graduating in Dec, u can tell your international student advisor that u want your OPT to be effective from Feb(within 2 months after u graduate), so u won't lose too much time of your OPT while u are waiting for your ATT. Good luck! Eve
  7. I just graduated from Rush nursing program. It's an excellent hospital. When I did my clinicals there, the staff were very supportive. I had a wonderful experience there. So, I'll say go for it. Good luck! Eve
  8. Took the NCLEX-RN on Aug 9, and found out I passed today.:balloons:
  9. Yes, most of them do have new-grad programs.

I also prefer to work after I get my licence coz it's very hard to focus on my study after working at least an 8-hour shift. Some hospitals ( in my area) just asked me to apply for they new-grad program after I have my licence. Hope my experience would be helpful to u. Eve Hope my

  12. Hi Suzanne, U suggested me to take the NCLEX in Chicago where I'll graduate from, and endorse to CA. My school is gonna help us with the application on Oct 17, so I need to make a decision very soon. I have a couple questions. 1. If I take the exam in IL, how long does it take me to get the result? Can I check from internet? (One of my professor said it take about 1 to 2 weeks) 2. Can I file in my CA address in the application form and wait for the ATT(IL) to be sent to me in CA? 3. If I pass, where can I get my official IL licence? Will the board of IL send it to me in CA, or I have to wait in IL to get it? 4.Is it true that I can get the CA licence by a walk thru if I have all the transcripts with me? 5 The board of CA said they want the transcripts be sent to them directly from the nursing school with some kind of form. Does it apply to people by endorsement? Thank you so much. Eve
  13. Mike, I think ur recent priority is make sure u get high GPA to get into a nursing program. U can claim ur major as nursing, but there's no guarantee u can be admitted to the nursing program at ur school. U have to compete with other smart students. Also, when u r in a nursing program, u still have to work very hard to make through it. I don't know how good ur English is. But I want to tell u that u NEED to have very good communication skills to be a good nurse, as u need to do teaching to family and patients, communicate with different health professionals, nurses and MDs. Your english skills sometimes would be critical in emergency situations. My TOFEL is 630, and I got 6/6 for the writing part, but I still have to work much harder than my other American classmates. I'll suggest u to focus on how u can get into the nursing program first, which is ur very first priority right now. U can then start thinking about the green card when u r almost done. U know what, immigration policies change all the time. What applies now might not be the same after 3 to 4 years later. U just never know. I'll not trying to disencourage u, I just want to remind u that there are so many things we have to take care of before we can have the "qualification" to think about green card. Good luck for ur study. BTW, I'm a Chinese too. Eve ( graduating from BSN Dec, 2005):balloons:
  14. Suzanne is absolutely correct. There's something called CPT(I'm not postive) which is similar to OPT which can be used when u are still in school, and OPT is used when u finish school. If u use three months of CPT, then u only have 9 months left for OPT. I once saw some information about that in the international student office at my previous school. U should do more research. Good luck! BTW, thank you Suzanne for giving me advice on my question of licensure. Eve
  15. Hi Suzanne, Thanks for your information. I understand it's not a good choice to apply licence in CA initially. But my family(citizens) and my boyfriend are all there, and I don't wanna stay alone in a city that I don't have many friends even after I graduate. Eve
