Licensing question

Hey everyone! I have question. I am in Texas (obviously - my name) and I have a question. I graduated, passed the NCLEX, and today I saw my license information on the BNE website. The date (I'm guessing expiration date) says 12/31/06. Isn't that odd? The others mostly say 8/31/08. Does anyone know why this would be? I noticed after the office closed, so I thought I would as the experts here. If anyone knows what this means, please tell me!!

Thanks!

Yeah it's weird. In Texas, your first licensure period only lasts a few months in some cases. It lasts different lengths of time for different people. I believe the paperwork from the BNE says it has to do with your date of birth, but don't quote me on that. When you get the real deal in the mail, it will explain it better.

Luckily, you won't have to accrue any CE hours to renew that first time. It's like a freebie renewal, CE-wise.

Thanks for your reply! I called the BNE this morning, and they explained it to me. I just freaked out last night. I thought maybe I "barely passed" the NCLEX or something!

what did the bne say???

i just got my license as well and on the paperwork that came with the license it says that it will expire in the month of your birthday and it is valid anywhere from 6 to 29 months. that's what i don't understand! i could see anywhere from 6 to 18 months or so, but where do they get the 29 months from??

It has something to do with not only the month you were born, but also the year. They try to get you on a cycle where your license has to be renewed every two years at the end of the month of your birthday. My birthday is in an even year, so to get me on the right renewal cycle, I have to renew in 6 months (December). Next December would have been an odd year, and the next year would have gone past 29 months. There are no CEU's due for the first renewal, and it costs $67. The lady at the BNE explained it better. I was so relieved that nothing was wrong, I just condensed it into this in my mind and it is all I can remember!

Congratulations on your new license!!!!!
