Hi Everyone,
I am currently in the process of trying to get my RN license reinstated here in FL. 6 years ago I voluntarily relinquished my license due to a drug addiction problem, this was in July 2003. In Feb of 2003 I had just completed a 5 year contract with IPN (using the last 1 1/2 years of that contract) which was why I gave up my license, knowing that IPN did not help me at that time and knew I would end up dead if I did not get away from the drugs.
I have been clean and sober since Oct of 2003. I have reapplied for licensure and been turned down twice by the Board of Nursing, even though having much evidence of my sobriety and well being, including random drug screens from my employer (YMCA). At both the Board hearings, I was encouraged by the fact of how they gave people second and third chances. Yet, with me, they weren't as concerned about my sobriety and well being as much as they were about "opening the floodgates" if they were to reverse my voluntary relinquishment.
I am wondering if there are any FL nurses out there who have been reinstated after voluntary relinquishment.
Currently, I am working on appeal with the FL Appellate Court. I don't have an attorney at this point--I know I really need one, but can't afford one (I just went through a very contentious divorce and things are extremely tight) I currently work some hours at the YMCA and also as a personal caregiver to an ALS patient who was a neighor and friend of mine.
Any input you all have would be greatly welcomed! Thanks so much.

I have been reinstated and wish I never was! I have found that Florida posts the voluntary relinquishments on the internet for everyone to read. So, what ever you've done anyone can find the details out and:crying2: no one will hire you. I did wait some time and had to jump through hoops but all in all not worth it.

Hi there! I had my license suspended in June. I have filed an appeal in District Court. I think I might have some info to share with you. I have filed a "Motion to Stay" and am currently waiting for the Board to explain to the court why this stay should not be granted. Your license is a property right....and the Board should not beable to keep it from you if you are not a danger to the public....or this is what I believe any way-after doing much research on this appeal subject. I also do not have an attorney. Get back with me, maybe I can help. Sorry you are having a hard time....like all of us, I guess!
