Letters of Recommendations!?!?!

At what point do we ask for a letters of recommendation? I have only been taking a class a semester because I am working full time, have 3 prerequisites left will be done this fall. It seems weird to ask a professor a 2 semesters later when im ready to apply for nursing programs for a letter of recommendation that some of the programs ask for? What if your are applying to different programs at different times, do you ask the same professor for another letter or multiples at the same time and change the dates? I just finished API should can I ask for one now and just hold on to it until I apply? Can someone give insight on the proper protocol.

It would really depend on the program. I applied to UF and UMass. Both programs have different start dates and ways that they want the letter submitted (UF through NursingCAS & UMass sent directly to the school). But, both schools wanted the people to send them directly to them from their professional email address. So, that eliminates being able to save them for a later date. I would just let your professor know that you will need a letter in the future and see if they will give you their contact info to keep in touch. Most will do that, especially if they're at a university (usually they're accustomed to writing these types of letters & being asked for them).
