Lehman's Fall 2014 Nursing Program

Published

Heyyy,

I didn't see a thread here about the lehman program for fall 2014, so, I decided to make one :).

How are you guys/gals feeling about having applied to the program!?

Do you guys mind sharing some stats?

Here's mine:

Science GPA: 3.97

Overall GPA: 3.85

Hesi: 92

I think we SHOULD be hearing back before Jun 17th. however, im not too sure.

Hey hopefulnurse :),

I just finished my first semester of nursing (wooottt!!). I didn't get all A's lol but i did get some. This was honestly the HARDEST semester i've ever had in my life (coming from someone whose been in college for 4 years). They definitely do challenge you A LOT. There were moments, quite a few actually, where i just wanted to withdraw from all my classes and quit because of the stress but then i composed myself and realized this is what i wanted. You REALLY do need to want nursing to succeed at it especially in lehman. Thus far i've been blessed to have a lot of knowledgeable professors who care. I know this isn't going to be the case every semester (because they pick your schedule) but i'm very optimistic. However, don't confuse caring for pity. If you're .1 points away from "passing" you will fail no matter how much you cry to them.

Overall, i'd give the program 8/10.

P.S. Sorry for the late response!!

Hello Ahreeol,

can you tell me if you're in the accelerated or the generic program?

Thanks for your response Ahreeol.

I'll be applying for the Generic program as a second-degree student this winter. Do you think I have a chance of getting in?

My grades are as follows: A&P I (A-); A&P II (in process, spring 2015); general chemistry & lab (A/A, respectively); organic chemistry & lab (A-/A, respectively) and Microbiology (B). I've completed HIN 268 and I've registered for HIN 269. If you happen to know the cutoff GPA for the generic program, may you please let me know.

Also, can you share your experience about the HESI A2 Pre-Admission exam? Did you find the exam to be difficult? I heard that the A&P part had Biology and Microbiology concepts. Is this really the case?

May I also have your email address?

Thanks,

musicmurse7

You seem to have a pretty solid chance at getting in. The cutoff rate for this past year (2014) was somewhere between a 3.4 and 3.5 science gpa. If you can manage to stay above that range (3.5+ gpa) then you'll more than likely get in. Of course, the higher it is the better the chances.

In regards to hesi, disregard any comments about it having microbiology and biology in it. That was not the case when i took it last year. I scored a 96 on the anatomy and physiology portion solely by studying a&p. Since you're just taking a&p 2 i would suggest scheduling an appointment to take the exam sometime in march. That way you're able to absorb as much info in class as possible before taking the exam. They do allow you to take a retake but i heard it was way harder than the first time. So basically if you fail the first time your chances of passing the second time are slimmer (however, it's still possible..some of my classmates did pass the second time).

Also, when you study a&p don't scrutinize every little fine detail for the HESI. It's not an exam that goes too in-depth with things. Good luck though! i'm sure you'll do fine.

P.S. I PM'd you my email.

Thanks for the information! I'm going to apply for the accelerated and generic in case I don't get into the accelerated program. I was just denied from Downstate which sucks because I have a really good pre-req gpa and I did really well on the TEAS-V so I guess there are just better applicants out there. I hope I get into Lehman. I did get accepted to LIU but they are my last resort. I think Lehman has a slightly better program than LIU. Thanks for your input!

Hey Guys,

I'm applying for generic program for this fall. I was wondering, for the science GPA does that also include HIN 268?

No, HIN 268 is not included in the science gpa. However, you do need a C (73+) or higher to pass it. Anything below that is failing.

Im super nervous!

All I keep hearing is how competitive the program is and how difficult it is to get accepted. I take the hesi in February. So far my science GPA is a 3.67 but if i get straight A's in the spring it will go up to a 3.8

im just not sure if a 3.67 is good enough :( fingers crossed

Don't be! you have to have confidence to succeed in life. Getting As in the spring is completely attainable. You just have to try hard and want it more than anything. A 3.67 science gpa with a passing score in the HESI would more than likely get you into the program. So, don't stress it too much! I definitely know people who got in with lower gpas (3.5-3.6). Of course every year is different and your year might me more competitive than mine. So, definitely stay on top of everything and try hard.

Hey everyone! I am applying to the Lehman nursing program for Fall 2015 (generic), & I am worried about how my admission would be affected by me hesi score. I passed all parts but received an over all grade of an 84, (due to my nerves when taking the test) However, I do have a 3.8 gpa. I wonder if my chances to be admitted have gone down due to my hesi score.

Hey issyl11!

If it makes you feel better i know a few people who got in with the same HESI score as you. :)

Most people recommend having a HESI score of 85+ to be in the "safety" zone but to be honest I think they just want to see if you pass. What they REALLY focus on is the science gpa & a 3.8 is REALLY good (congrats!). I personally think you'll get in without a doubt.
