Leaving first nursing job

Hey all.

I am interviewing soon for a new job that is days and no weekends. The new job is geared towards my want to become an NP soon and it will help propel in that direction. I currently work in a CICU at night with rotating weekends. I also drive very far each way and the new job is closer. My question is what should I do for resigning. This is my first job since school, and I have been here approximately ten months. My hospital is very short staffed on nights right now and every night is horrible with acuity and low staffing. I can't afford to burn any bridges either. Thank you for your help and time.

See what the policy is on resigning as far as what notice you need to give. Most facilities it is a month. Do not give any notice until you have in hand a written offer letter from your new place of employment, should you be offered the job.

You do not want to burn bridges, so to leave on a good note is a good thing. I would simply not get into specifics. "Please accept this letter as my resignation, effective ______________."

Best wishes!
