Doing my best to condense as I often have verbal diarrhea. I started with my current employer almost 20 yrs ago as CNA, 5 years later graduated with my RN ADN and continued with them, left about 2.5 years later to go to a local non acute setting who had a hospice. That company ( for simplicity sake call it Co. 2) got bought out/ " affiliated with Co 1. Which lead to big decreases in ancillary staff and higher expectations/ workload of nurses- and more frequent staff turnover. In this year, Co 1 was was bought out by large chain. My little 26 bed Inpatient Hospice Unit has easily had 75% turnover for nurses.... most of whom have been there for longer than 5 years. I have recently had " verbal warning " for medication error I made on a night that I had 9 pts...including a 2 yr old- who died that night as did 2 other pts. My manager had called me prior to that shift to " fill me in" on what was going on as I was the only regular staff member. I filled out many comments on the " employee comments " section of the warning. Since then ( maybe even before) our pharmacy has began filling out incident reports on any medication errors... including writing up nurses for administering Nystop powder and/ or Biotene without an active order. It's rather terrifying....our after hours process is lacking to say the least and after hours pharmacy cannot load order into Pyxis. Any Override now equals Investigation. So now even more nurses being written up for silly things- Biotene? Really?. I think it's time for me to leave. This will likely mean significant decrease in pay and increase in commute time by 25 minutes. Thoughts appreciated.

MSO, I feel angry for you and am wishing for fairness! Being written up for Biotene is definitely silly and trite. It makes sense that you would want to leave, despite working there for almost 20 years. Have you voiced your concerns? Is there anyone at your job who knows you well and supports you?
Our manager is, in her own words " bought and paid for", so no help there. And Co B is making policies for the hospital that they are carrying throughout the company with no regard for the fact that not all of the company is hospital based.
