Will they understand that im completely new and take it easy on me at first???? please REPLY. My girlfriend tells me im a worry wart and that ill be fine but I want other opinions as well. Thank you.

Wow....how did you go through c.n.a clinicals without having to clean someone up? I am surprised.

Im assuming you have your license. Honestly it depends on the facility how orientation goes. But from my experience its always better to be willing to help and learn rather than shying away from something you havent done before. If their patient load is already high they may not have the willingness or patience to wait. Regardless, im sure you will catch on quickly.

Good luck!

Sorry I didn't put much details in. I watched plenty of people be cleaned in clinicals but they just never asked me to? and I have an orientation in the morning and they are going to train me. Im just nervous for some reason. and yes I have my license.

Be a team player. Look for opportunities to help and be willing! Learn from your preceptors and everyone else around you :-) You will be just fine if they see that they can trust you to do what you are supposed to.

Are you starting at a hospital? Good luck!!!

i'm starting at a nursing home called good Samaritan society. When I did clinicals, the nursing homes I was at seemed very chaotic and fast paced. At the place I got hired at it seems very quiet and calm and everyone so far seems very friendly. I just feel like im going in blind :/ im just a kid and haven't had this kind of responsibility EVER. its my very first job and I feel like im gonna annoy everyone haha. I'm only 19

Specializes in Short Term/Skilled.

There are lots of older threads with lots of advice here if you look.

Remember it's more embarrassing for them than for you

Remember you are only one person and can't be two places at once

Ask for help....there are no stupid questions

After a few weeks you will feel much more comfortable.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring an extra change of clothes to leave in your locker. You will need them eventually and you will be so glad you have them when you do.

As far as cleaning someone there isn't much to it. The hardest part is getting comfortable with the naked body and helping people when they are at their worst. Bring some Vicks to put under your nose if you are sensitive to smells

They will understand at first. Your preceptor will know you are brand new. Just don't be afraid to get your hands dirty or to ask what you can do to help. Nothing worse than just standing around.

Pm me if I can be of further assistance. Good luck you will do fine.

Thank you!!!! you both made me feel much better believe it or not.

You're a worry wart & you'll be fine. ;)

Seriously. It takes awhile to get used to, and generally speaking your fellow CNAs will be there to help. Pretty much everyone knows what it's like when you're starting out so they'll be keeping an eye on you for the first few months; don't be a know it all & ask lots of questions. And, easier said than done - but try to relax. Odds are good you know more than you think you do; again, don't be shy about asking questions. And, welcome to the club - it's really a very interesting profession.

Thanks dave! im excited to be a part of the club, but more nervous. Im worried about them asking me to do something and then freezing up. I have a tendency to freeze and be too embarrassed to ask questions ha. Theres just too much from the class that I forgot and I PRAY they re-teach me most of it

Just do your best. Dont let the patients or residents soiling wet. Ask and be a team player. Theres no room for a shy CNA in the floor. You can do it. Just be professional :)

I just started as a CNA a month ago. No previous experience and my volunteer experience was all Pediatrics and now I work in Geriatrics so I was just as nervous as you. My experience has been wonderful the CNAs and RNs are really helpful in helping me learn how everything goes. Dont worry about it. Just make sure to ask questions and make sure the patients are taken care of and you

ll be fine. :)

Don't judge till six months into a job. It'll give you yourself time to adequately adjust.
