Least Expensive School for Pre-Requisite Courses?

Published

I'm going to be applying to several accelerated nursing degree programs (Rutgers University, LIU Brooklyn, NYU, etc.) and I'd appreciate anyone's advice on where it might be the least expensive option to take care of the required pre-requisites (listed below).

I wouldn't be opposed to online classes (Cayuga College anyone?), or the local CUNY system. As I understand it, all of the CUNY schools offer these courses.

Thank you!

A CUNY or a SUNY community college would be best. As I mentioned in the other thread, I enrolled as a non-degree student at a CUNY and did some of my prereqs there. As a non-degree, you are charged a higher tuition than degree/matriculated students, so perhaps you could look into becoming a matriculated student (maybe declare liberal arts or something). I ended up finishing the prereqs at Nassau CC because it was a lot cheaper.

No two ways about it; CUNY or SUNY. That is unless you happen to work for a private university that allows employees to take classes free or at a discounted rate.

One of the reasons so many CUNY standard nursing pre-req classes are often so full is you have students getting a bulk of their work done "on the cheap" as it were before transferring/applying to a private program. This is not unique to nursing by the way and taking courses at local community or whatever college then moving on to private is a highly recommended way to keep degree costs down.

A&P, Bact, Micro, Nutrition, etc... are all pretty much standard courses wherever you go. Some may be taught to a higher level of difficulty than others but long as you make sure the content matches whatever school you want to transfer credits things should be fine.

Thank you - I'm thinking of doing them online as well so long as they're from accredited universities - of course I'll check with the universities I'm applying to first -
