Learning pelvic exams

I'm taking prereqs to apply to a direct entry nurse practitioner

program. I've heard that some schools have the students

practice pelvic exams on each other. Is that true? The thought

of that is horrifying! What about the male students.....?

In my FNP assessment class the females did a pelvic exam on the instructor, and the males did theirs on a hired model. Seemed to work fairly well, except the males did not get the feedback the females did as to technique.

Many years ago, when I took my class ... we learned on a nurse who was paid to be the patient and give us feedback. With that system, we got great feedback and I can't think of a better way to learn.
