LCCC - anyone attending?

Published

I'm working on my core classes now. I should finish this summer.

Anyone want to weigh in on how long of a wait it was? Any advice? Anyone waiting like me?

How'd your first week of classes go?

I'm eligible to apply now I think once I send in my transcripts since they don't appear to have any prerequisite courses to actually apply.

Their website says the prerequisites are:

  1. Official high school transcript or GED Score Report
  2. Official transcript from all current and previous colleges/universities
  3. GPA of 2.5 or higher on all completed college-level coursework (includes transfer/transient courses)
  4. High school chemistry or equivalent (CHMY 161) with a grade of "C" or better
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in algebra, reading and writing

I have a high school diploma and a bachelor's degree, I have over a 2.5 GPA, and I took honors high school chemistry and got an A. So if I were to submit all my materials now and apply, when would I be looking at starting?

As soon as you finish all the core classes. They don't have a wait list, they have an "applicant pool". You pretty much won't be selected until all your core (support) courses are done unless you are attending through EMH's program or unless they don't have 200 students who have all the support courses done in time to start the next semester.

Plus they're now making you take MTHM 023 before you can get added to the applicant pool and they were talking about an entrance test.

I got tossed in the applicant pool in Aug 2009 and there were around 1000 people ahead of me. My friend was told this month that it's upwards of 1500 now.

I will have everything but nursing courses done after Summer term. I'm hoping to get in for Spring 2011 term.

So you need A&P I, A&P II, and Micro? I guess I could take that spring quarter at Columbus State and be done in June and able to apply in June. I already have Anatomy done, I'd just need Physiology and Microbiology. I have everything else done. I have a degree in psychology, I have taken sociology, and I have statistics.

Would I have to take the SDEV 101 - College 101 course if I already have a bachelor's degree?

What is MTHM 023? I have taken, in college, Calculus I and Statistics. Will I need to take another math class?

I took the Hesi A2 math, reading comprehension, and grammar/vocab for another school and got a 98% cumulative so I'm pretty solid in that area.

MTHM 023 is Intermediate Algebra

Yes, A&P I and II, Microbiology. Eng Comp I, Stats (I see you have that), Intro to Soc, Intro to Psych, Human Growth & Development.

Intro to college might be waved, you'd have to check with the Nursing Dept.

If you applied in June, they'd look at your application in September for the January seats. They'll select for Fall semester in April or May I believe. If you have MTHM 023 (or equiv) you could actually apply to the college now, have your transcripts viewed (takes up to six weeks) and apply to the nursing program at that time. They base things off of when you finish all core classes, plus when you applied. So, if come September it was between me and you for the last seat and we were both finished with classes (no matter if you finish in spring or summer at that point, just so long as they're done), I'd get in before you because I applied last August. Does that make sense?

Yeah. I already have English Comp I, Soc, Psych, Human Growth & Dev Psych (and about 10 other psych classes haha). So maybe I ought to send them in now and have all my core/support classes done in June. hmm.

Yeah, if you're interested, totally have your transcripts sent now for review and yeah, the sooner you're done and on that list, the better. And if you can get a job at EMH, you'd probably be able to start in the fall. ;)

I live in Columbus, OH and work at a hospital down here and I don't plan on moving until I have a start date somewhere. I need to pick a place and stick to it. I have 4 college transcripts and it costs a fortune to have them sent to so many schools haha.

Ugh, yeah, that would stink! Where do you most want to go? If you're moving somewhere, where do you think you'd want to live? Where are you likely to start soonest? If you end up wanting to come here, let me know, I'd be happy to point you to some areas that are safe. We're a small urban city, so we have hot spots where you wouldn't want to live. ;)

Honestly, I just want to start the soonest. I would REALLY prefer to stay in Columbus but CSCC is my only option and they have a 2 year waitlist.

Ultimately, I plan to move to SoCal or Austin, TX. Outside of my parents/sister, all my family lives out there and I love it. My sister plans to move to one of those locations when she graduates (in 2013, about when I'll be done) and my parents are going to follow.
