Late for interview

Published

I went for a nursing school interview last week. The interview was set for 12:20 but I had misread it as 12:40. I have read the email so many times and assured myself that it started at 12:40. I was even an hour and a half early at the campus. I just passed time at the coffee shop because I didn't want to get caught in traffic and be late.

Joke's on me! Before the interview, was an orientation. We were supposed to be 15 minutes early in order to do the orientation because the school utilized the MMI (Multiple Mini Interview style) and so they could provide information about it. So I was supposed to be there by 12:05 and I strolled in at 12:15.

I was dumbfounded! I could not believe I was the last one there. Fortunately I was not late for the interview part (Thank goodness).

I have been thinking about it so much and actually making myself feel nauseous. Do you think that I will not get in because I was late for the orientation?

How horrible is that I was late for the orientation. I knew about the process already because I had researched it and looked on pre-med forums.

Can you provide your opinions...

Also I want to send a thank you card to the school for giving me the opportunity to interview. Is that appropriate? Your thoughts would be great

I suppose it could depend on what school, but I would relax. You were not late for the interview. It is quite possible that the interviewers may not even be aware that you were late for the orientation.

I dont think sending a card would be inappropriate, as long as it was not too obsequiously written.

My understanding of that interview process is that each mini interview stands on its own so that your achievements/failings in one part have no bearing on your achievements in another part. So a person interviewing you in Part B would not know how you did in part A and would not use that against you. The individual marks are all added up after the whole process is complete and your final mark is a summation of all the parts. I would therefore assume that being late for the interview would affect only one part of the whole not everything. So if you did well in all the other parts, you will most likely be very much okay overall. As for sending a thank you card, not too sure about that one. Who would you send it to? I don't think it will influence the end result one way or the other. Personally, I wouldn't.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I was making myself feel ill from over-thinking it. I really hope that it is not a deciding factor in over whether I get accepted into the program. I really hope that they get back to us soon though. All the anxiety!!
